Choose Secondary school for 2010

Parents, my daughter got 246. Methodist COP is 253…!
I want to chooose MGS as 1st choice and Crescent as 2nd choice…
Is it too optimistic to opt Methodist as 1st choice…? Is there a ray of hope…? any experiences to share…??
She has prefect/leadership certificates… not sure if those kinda things help in appealing…
Appreciate your feedback. -

I'm a child too, but based on what my teacher told me, the hopes of appealing are not too high.Parents, my daughter got 246. Methodist COP is 253...!

There was a boy that my teacher taught with an aggregate score that allows him to get into HCI, but not RI. He put RI as the first choice, but did not get in.
HCI did not accept him as well (it was at the 2nd/3rd choice) , he ended up at SJI.
Likewise, your child might not get into Cresent although you pass the cut-off point if you put Cresent as your 2nd/3rd Choice.
If your child does well in a CCA, you might consider appealing.
Why not try Cedar Girls? I heard that it is a good school, and should be within your child's t-score. -
My DD t score 244, now very trouble as to choose either Nan Hua High or Crescent Girls as 1st choice. pls help or share yr tots please… tks in advance

Thanks Kiasu child for sharing your views…!!
I heard similar views… but i still not clear how it works… MOE says, the seat will not be filled with a pupil with lower PSLE score (including the decimal thingy…)…
In the situation u mentioned… Was HCI cutoff lower than what the boy got…? If HCI cut off was higher than what the boy got… then irrespective of he choosing HCI as 1st or 6th choice would not matter…
Thanks for your views. I will be putting in crescent as my first choice. Agree with you that Cedar is a good school. We live in the west so distance is a problem. that is why preferring Crescent. -
I am still very confused

How does it really work?
Example (I have omitted decimal etc just for simplicity...)
290
...
260
...
150
The computer will go down the list and process starting from the first child and post him/her to the 1st choice school.
Next it goes down the list by merit of T-score. Assuming the 1st choice has reached the school's no. of vacanies for 1st choice sch, it will go to 2nd choice, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th until a vacany is found. Then it goes to the next child in line... and so on ...
If this is correct, the child with higher T-score will always have an opportunity to get into the school of his/her choice (as long as there is a vacany and he/she meets the COP) regardless of whether it is 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice? There is no way anthr child with lower T-score will be admitted to a school just because he/she puts it in 1st choice.
That means that we dont have to worry about whether we put the school in 2nd choice or 3rd or 4th?
Someone please HELP !!! This will help a lot of us decide on the choices.
Many thanks -

Yes. This is clearly stated and illustrated in the MOE PSLE Booklet 1 and on its website. A resourceful 12 year old has also kindly scanned and reproduced that page on this forum.I am still very confused

Wonder if anyone could advise me about edusave for independent schools. My daughter's S1 form does not mention edusave subsidy for independent schools. Does it mean I have to pay full amount of school fees if my daughter goes to SCGS or MGS?

I wd think so. The form will indicate the eligibility of your child -
* EESIS
* SAP
* HMTL
* third language
I just realised that not all the students hv ALL the above shown on their forms. So I think it will show what the kid is eligible.
