    • RE: St Anne's Church Kindergarten

From my knowledge, there is no shortage of good kindergartens in Sengkang, i.e. Montessori etc. St Annes however, is more of a bridge between those and the PAP kindergartens, I feel. So their standard, while much better than PAP is not comparable Montessori or other prestigious preschools.

Most church kindergartens do not have much funding, and the teachers themselves are not highly paid either. Hence, I feel it is unreasonable to expect too much from them. And it is unfair to say that the teachers ‘might not know every child’. I do of a few teachers from the kindergarten, and they all know the children they teach by name. They have a syllabus to follow, and as with all kindergartens, are vetted by MOE. I can’t say that all the teachers there are great either, but if you feedback to the school, they will acknowledge your concerns, and sometimes make changes accordingly.

As for excursions and class activities, I know they have organised zoo trips, MRT excursions, cookie-making classes, visits to snow city, river cruises and other activities before. An IKEA trip might be pretty fun to a 5 year old too.

And as far as I know, the school has an emphasis on imparting values to the children like love and compassion (at least for the time I knew them) which is more important to me than just syllabus and rote learning. That was what made my parents decide on sending us to a kindergarten with a religious affiliation instead.

      Cheers.
