RE: SUTD
Thks again. You have cleared many doubts.
Sounds promising that graduates are expected to be capable of designing and managing products, in addition to designing software like graduates of the other Unis. So it appears to offer more breadth and that the depth may be compromised considering that it offers 3.5 yrs as opposed to 4 yrs offered by other Unis.
Also, re-taking is not an examination anymore but a test? Does it mean the format is different from exam? The score of ‘C’ after retake still commands the same status of an exam and so 3 points will be awarded. Correct? Wonder what will happen if one still fails after the bootcamp and test during Freshmore.
I just learnt from another forum that SUTD is not PEB recognised unlike NUS and NTU. Not sure if you have any comment about it. -
RE: SUTD
Thanks. DD was offered a place. Still deciding whether to accept.
Are there allocated number of places for each pillar? Will student be definitely given the choice of their pillar? Have there been cases whereby students were not allocated the pillar of their choice, and so SUTD will assign the student to a particular pillar? Are students asked to indicate their 4 choices in order of preference, or they are just asked to select 1-2 pillars in order of their preference?
Similarly, will students be posted to the track of their choice within the pillar, or subject to their results in earlier terms?
Which traditional courses in NUS and NTU are SUTD’s ISTD akin to? Is ISTD closer to SMU’s Information System?
Every class has about 45-50 students and has 3 teachers. Does this apply to all levels from freshmore to pillar years?
Generally what type of students will go to which country, company or country for internship and exchange programme?
As SUTD does not go by academic units, can I say that students have to pass all subjects before they can be promoted to the next level/year? How are students’ results graded - A,B,C, or points?
What is boot camp? Is it a remedial class after each term examination for students who fail a subject before taking supplementary exam? -
RE: SUTD
Can anyone share more about SUTD and the 4 pillars?
Any current students or alumni here to share about academic life, cca, employability, etc?
Which pillar/ specialty would girls prefer or not prefer to enrol in and why is it so? -
RE: * Anderson Serangoon JC (ASRJC)
Anyone has anything to share about SRJC? Can be about the school’s culture, discipline, performance, strength, weakness, principal, teachers, CCAs, amenities, environment, canteen, project work, subjects combination, and etc.
Please share. Thanks. -
RE: Top 20 secondary school in Singapore
mathsparks:
I studied at BPGH in the late 70s-early 80s. Back then, BPGHS was in a rural area. I remembered our PE lessons were always running on orange muddy tracks with bushes on both sides. Public transport was inadequate and not well connected to other parts of Singapore. Therefore, many students living in the west who did well in their PSLE chose BPGHS as their first choice and studied in BPGHS. It had students from Chinese stream and English Stream; i.e. classes of students who took Chinese as 1st language, and classes of students who took English as 1st language. Therefore, the school was still a very 'Chinese' school compare to other schools. I remembered that we had to sing school song and recite our school motto in Chinese every Monday. It maintains its humble stature although it had already established itself then as a premier school in the west. Coupled with the fact that there was no proliferation of internet, BPGHS was unheard of to many others who do not live in the west. With the abolishment of Chinese stream, I suppose it is now a full-fledged English school like any others. Highly possible that BPGHS would have been a SAP school had it not been converted into a full-fledged English school. As far as HMT is concerned, both schools offer them and students need to score A* in both languages before they can take the subject.
So what's the real difference with sap and non-sap? The culture in Nan Hua is more Chinese oriented, perhaps while in BPGHS, they accept students of all races. Maybe ccas are different too. -

RE: 2011 PSLE - Appeal for Sec School
Please let me know soon as I received a reply from another school, and I am tossing whether to accept or wait for St Nich’s reply. If yes, the date and time (am/pm?) that St Nich called you. Thanks to all.
