      Hi mamachen,

If you’re serious about enrolling your child into poi Ching (Tampines) -
From now till January 2014 left Approx. 6 to 7 months. The p1 and p2 Chinese standard is high - much higher than our moe p1/p2 higher Chinese syllabus, bec they use "yunyu" textbooks. And this curriculum is developed with the help of selected china schools in china. This, I would suggest that if you can - try to buy yunyu trxtbook p1a (for first 6 months’ use in 2014 jan till June 2014). At least at home everyday, make sure that yr child able to read the Chinese poetry or passages inside textbk p1 a first. The tingxie part will come in later when she go p1. But v impt - ensure that your child can read first, at least let yr child be familiarized with the Chinese vocab first, through regular reading. (To be honest, some of the words in p1 b textbk I also don’t know how to read). At least, make the remaining half of this k2 worthwhile for yr child. Dun leave everything till last minute in p1 2014.

FYI - you can buy yunyu Chinese textbk 1a and 1b (this will be used in second half of the year, from July to nov 2014) from poi Ching bookshop. Is open daily mon - Fri, 9 am - 3 pm. Saturday, bookshop is closed. But do call up ensure bookshop got stock first, before you go down. Don’t make an empty trip down.

If yr child manage to enter st Hilda successfully, her Chinese std is lower compared to poi Ching yunyu. St Hilda is not a sap school, but a mission Anglican school. Poi Ching is a sap school. Whichever school your child enter, both are good schools. Each has their own unique strength. I wish you the very best!

        Hi phtthp

Thanks for your advise! I heard about Poi Ching having their high standard in chinese, like cramping 2000 words in their first 3 years. But later it will be a breeze for the kid. Again, like what you said, if the kid likes chinese and able to catch up is another question.

Also, want to find out from parents here, do you place your child in student care? And for schools ard St Hildas, are there any good student care around?

        Thanks alot!!

          Hi mamachen,

I'm not sure about student care centres around St. Hilda's Bedok site currently, but there will be one within the school grounds when the school moves back to its Tampines site in 2015.

I'm assuming u live in Tampines as u mentioned Poi Ching as ur other choice. There are 'point-to-point' bus services for pupils who live within walking distance to the school's original site in Tampines. This means that the students will be picked up from Bedok site and dropped off at designated drop off points around Tampines site, like the CC along Ave 3, and along St 82 where the secondary school is. This also works the other way round (Tampines to Bedok). This service is provided at a fee. U can call the school for details.

          Hope this helps.

              hi cmm

thanks alot for your advise!! Ok.. that probably solves my main concern. Will wait for july and see what happens..... too early to plan anything actually.

              Hi working mums

how have you been managing your child when he/she goes into P1? I just cant imagine how is it to manage?

We knock off at 6pm, reach home earliest 7pm, dinner till 8pm.
Kids supposed to sleep early, 10pm.. 2 hours in between.. how to coach them? :scared:

Also, is it a must that the child goes chinese enrichment like tian hsia or berrys at K2? Is it too late now?

thanks for advise... too many questions.. getting abit paranoid alr.. :gloomy:

Wow, now I am hesitating whether to send my child to Poi Ching. How can I know the primary school’s PSLE results like the national passes, school percentage passes so on and so forth? Anybody knows which are the schools in Tampines with high % of passes and scores of A/A*? Primary registration starts in Jun/Jul just 1-2 mths aways. I am very anxious to know how the schools fare on last year PSLE esp the ones that I am interested to enroll my child in?

                      Dear Parents,

Does anyone knows which school is of a better choice, Gongshang Primary School or Chongzheng Primary school? My home distance for both school is between 1.5km to 2km.

                      Many thanks!
