Janet_lee88, I reckon she is talking about doing the braces after PSLE before Sec 1. šŸ˜„ ie. during post PSLE 3-mths break

the soreness is terrible...i remember having to go on liquid diet for several days before i could eat solids then...every month for 1 year.
even a roast duck put before me is untouchable 😢

I believe that technology has improved. I did my braces in the 70s and the experience was really awful - after every adjustment, I was on liquid foods for 1-2 days! So before my kids started, I warned them and tried to prepare them mentally, but found that they actually had very much less pain than I expected. They experienced some soreness and couldn't bite with their front teeth for about 1 day after each adjustment, but they could still eat normal food. I asked the orthodontist and also did some reading up, and it seems that newer materials which are used today have a bit more flexibility and so cause less pain. Lucky them!

Son should be wearing braces probably end of this year.
Braces require more attention and time maintaining as well as brushing. Also monthly visits to clinic...in fact after PSLE, son wanted time to play. After that with results, waiting for posting and buying books, the whole year just went by.

Oh... Thanks for the info. Maybe it is better if we do it during the June holiday next year. Everything is more settled.

You can always start with a consultation first. You can choose to delay if it suits you. Sometimes, the child may not be able to start immediately too.
In my case, DS consulted the orthodontist end 2011, as a number of his adult teeth are not out yet, we had to wait. DS only starting this May/Jun ie. 1.5 years later
The younger DD on the other hand is able to start anytime, but I'm delaying hers till PSLE is over.

My son has been going to National Dental Centre for 2 years because his teeth are very crooked so some parts of the gum have receded and expose part of roots (It is my fault because I am not aware that crooked teeth can have this effect :stupid: ). We have gone through 2 temporary braces and was told to do a 'permanent' one after PSLE. We are scheduled to see the orthodontist again next month. I will ask the orthodontist when is the best time considering my son's teeth. I just remember I got another letter from the school dental nurse about 2 months ago :slapshead:

this boy had a tough time since birth...cleft lip and palate operations at 2 and 8 months respectively. i really pity him.

My dragon boy also had a tough time since birth too. He had eye open when he was 2 years old to implant a len & to remove a cataract in his right eye. He was hospitalized when he was in P3 for Pneumonia (lung infection) & he had chest infection in P5. He had fever every month when he was P3 & P4. Even till now, he will fall sick if someone in his class is sick.
