Travel: Taiwan - Taipei
-
Hi,
You might want to visit Wufenpu, a garment wholesale area. There are clothes for adult and children though I do not recommend you bring junior; too many shops but worth buying.
Qui fen have nice tea houses and you might want to spend some time there. We would have stayed at qui fen for a night if we knew its such a nice place.
Be prepared to queue for Taipei 101.
Buy their day passes for public transport if your are on your own. Their taxi ‘little yellow’ is quite reasonable. I privately arrange with a taxi driver to bring us to qui fen. I think I might still have his card; let me know if you need.
We stayed at W hotel. Its very convenient, modern and nice.
I did a free and easy trip with my daughter after her PSLE last year. We did not travel much just going to few places but we enjoyed taiwan.
Everyone has their preference and what we enjoyed might not be your preference; just sharing.

I heard that there are many exhibits worth looking at forHi Hi
I am organising our first tour with my five-year-old DS. We are going to Taiwan in July 2013. As this is our first tour, I hope it will be a relaxing one. I am actually contemplating between a DIY tour or a package tour. I think package tour is much cheaper and less hassle. I was quoted $378 for adult and $298 for child for a 6D packaged land tour. However I think a DIY tour will be more fun.
This is my itinerary if going on my own :
Day 1 - Arrival
Day 2 - National Museum (故宮), Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (紀念堂), Taipei 101, 士林夜市 (Shi Lin Night Market)
Day 3 - Nanya Rock (南雅), 九份, YeLiu Geopark (野柳), Yang Ming Shan hotspring (陽明山), Pingxi/Shifen
Day 4 - 北投 Hell Valley, 淡水老街
Day 5 - Travel to Cing Jing
Day 6 - Half day tour from CingJing to Hehuanshan
Day 7 - Return from CIng Jing to Taipei
Day 8 - Home sweet home
For hotel, I am thinking of Cosmos in Taipei as I was told it is very near Taipei Main Station. For CingJing, DH has chosen Misty Minsu over Starry Minsu as he feels that the Misty seems nicer in their rooms.
For transport, I will engage a private taxi on Day 3. For travel to CingJing, I will travel HSR to TaiChung. From TaiChung HSR, take another bus to Misty Minsu.
I have the following queries :
1. How long is the journey from Taipei to CingJing?
2. Do we have to pay for all the activities in Misty Minsu?
3. Do I need to get a private taxi in CingJing or the activities there will be enough to occupy us?
I am thinking if time permits, I will sqeeze the sightseeing on Day 2 to Day 1 and Day7/8. So that I could go to Maokong and the zoo in Day 2.
What do you guys think of the itinerary?
National Museum (故宮). Have fun! -
Dear mummies,
Appreciate some advices for babyboss.
1) Notice from the website that these are the 2 ways to get there.
Shuttle Bus
Take the ‘Nangang line’ (Blue) or ‘Muzha line’(Brown), get off at Zhongxiao/Fuxing Station, Exit.05 (in front of Land Bank), take the ‘Living Mall Shuttle Bus’, get off at ‘Living Mall’.
MRT
Take ‘Nangang line’ (Blue), get off at ‘S.Y.S Memorial Hall Station’, Exit.5, walk along ‘Guangfu S. Rd.’ towards ‘Civil Blvd. Sec.5’, turn Right at the light.
Which is the most convenient way if I am going from my hotel in XMD?
2) Do I need to buy tickets in advance? I plan to go on a rainy day since it is indoor, save the good weather for outdoor activities.
3)Is there any shopping in that area? Dont really want to waste my whole day there. Probably station 1 adult there to look after the kid while the other can walk around that area.
Thanks! -

Hi All,
Any advice on hotels in Ximending? Thanks! -
Hi micollh,
Thanks!!!
Will follow your route exactly.
Hi alng,
I stayed in wonstar in XMD before. The location is great and the staff are friendly. But that was years ago when they just opened.
This time round, as I am going with a kid, i booked Westgate in XMD. Suppose to be even nearer to the XMD MRT, and its new.

Shuttle bus info can be found here. Do take note of the bus timing, if you are going on a weekend, bus only operates at 10.40am.

Alternatively, you may want to take a bus directly from XMD to Living Mall (京华城), #205 and #276 from XMDKarl12:

We hired a driver, Meeky Yang, to Jiufen, Shifen, Yehliu and Keelung in 2011. 3A+3C, NT3000 for 12 hours
Then we hired another driver, Ernest Sung to Jiufen, Jingguashi, Nanya Rocks and Peace Island last year. NT3500 for 11 hours
This year, I’m planning to visit Jiufen, Jinshan and YMS. Will also visit Shimen and Sanzhi by public transport.
