All About Part-Time Maids

After reading through the posts here, I must be thankful that I have an efficient part time maid. Her rate used to be $10 per hour but after working for me 3 or 4 years, she increased to $12 an hour. Minimum is 4 hours. I pay her $50 and told her keep the change for your transport. She will appreciate it and work diligently.
Not only is she efficient, she is fast and automatic. Doesn’t need me to tell her what to do. I do not require her to iron clothes as my husband and I could do it ourselves. My house can be like blown by the tornado and she can clean it for me. She even knows how to operate Rainbow vacuum cleaner which till today I do not know how to use it. I remember the first time she came down and my husband had to be at home to teach her. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that she knows how to use Rainbow vacuum cleaner, which parts for the floor, which parts for the mattress. When I require her to clean windows like once a month, I will ask her if she can do 5 hours and I pay her accordingly.
Therefore, I appreciate her service and through words of mouth, my relatives also started to use her service. Sometimes, it depends on luck to get a good part-time cleaner. -
sounds good do hit me up with a contact if it is possible.

I usually give $80 as a token of appreciation. -

Is there a principle for giving? Is it based on length of service or like a certain multiple of the amount we normally give?fluffyboy:

My pt helper has been helping me with the (mostly) ironing since my 2nd pregnancy in 2009 and never accepted extra money when she stayed longer than agreed. In the first 2 years of CNY, I gave her $50 and gave her $80 (a nicer significance since she is from China) for the last 2 years. It was a token of appreciation on my part. I also gave the Malay building cleaning auntie a small token on special days because I am appreciative that she keeps the building clean and always helped arrange our shoes when she doesn't have to (she did that even before the red packets).Canvas:

I highly recommend her as she is clean in the house, honest and she value her work a lot. Her rate is 12/hr and is available every sunday. Thanks
Hi,
I hv not hired a pt n full time maid before, just wan to hear from u wat is the diff?
N ur pt maid is good then y u wan to change to full time maid?
Cos i wan a pt maid n my hubby ask me to apply for a full time de. So tat i no need to do cleaning everyday after my work… tks. -
If you have been managing well with a PT maid, then I personally would recommend that you continue doing so. A full time maid is a lot different - being available 24x7 or so we think also means you have added responsibility - financially and socially. To me it is introducing extra headache. First you gotta pray that you get a decent person. Then you gotta trust your home to them while you are at work, train them to cook and clean, and hopefully they don't do funny things in their free time.
Instead of getting a full-time maid, try to invest in gadgets like dryer, dishwasher, those automated mop thingy... it really helps a lot. In addition, you can also make some small changes to cooking style / lifestyle etc to make cleaning easier and lessen the amount of housekeeping.
My DC are 5 and 2 and I have had a maid since #2 was born (partly because DH wants baby to be at home so that his mom can come over and play :slapshead: ) . #3 is coming along but in all my planning I try to do without a maid. Having a maid doesn't help when I wanna teach my children about values and right eating habits. Whenever people ask this question - maid or no maid - my answer is always, no maid unless that becomes a last resort. Friends that have done away with the maid tells me that it take some extra effort, but it is worth it (independent children, more privacy, no maid-related headaches, etc). -
