      jkids:

he seems to have prob understanding the math q or concept, esp prob sums. what goes wrong, I really duno. we need to explain a few times, but sometime he still dun get it.
      Hi jkids,

Sounds really stressful. Hmm...I just wondering if you know how your child learn...or what kind of interest he has and he is willing to do it without being ask...the reason is that we want to help him make the connection as well as understand what he likes and how he learns...while getting help for him may work, how the teacher teaches and engages him plays a BIG part.

          Hi einleda,

If you have time and you can teach him, it will be the best choice, especially if he is still in Primary. Some parents refer to the samples and model questions provided by school teacher, or textbook and assessment books and try to teach their children. This is great and very cost effective.

If your son can perform average or above average, group tuition may be a good choice.

But if he is rather weak, I suggest you to have home tuition for him as the tutor can focus on 1 student at a time which will be better for him.

For the first few lessons, discuss with your son whether the tutor explains clearly enough so that your son can understand the topics.

Every 2 to 3 months, you need to make sure that you son is making steady improvement. If not, please engage another tutor. Don't waste money on the tutor who cannot help your son. Some tutors are good but don't have the skill and experience to teach/\"deal\" with various types of students.

          Hope that helps!

            Hi einleda,

Is there any improvement after attending the group tuition?

First, before making any change, I suggest we can first find out what works and does not work for your son.

The reason is going for one to one tuition is based on the assumption that you can find one tutor who can connect with your child and can engage him. I know some group tutors/ teachers can engage the kids effectively even at group level.

So first, find out what's your child's preference? What's the feedback given by the tutor? Does your child ask question? How often? And what kind fo follow up and tracking system does the tutor use? Does your tutor update you? And how do you know if your child is benefitting/ not benefitting?

There are many areas to explore....

            Hope this helps...

            John

                Hi optipooh,

                Welcome to KSP!

What kind of help do you need for your child?
Is it on building foundation? Is it coaching him on problem solving skills? Is it on helping him to find back his confidence?

From my experience, it can really help the kid progress much faster if we know what exactly he needs... 😃

                John
