Thanks Yukilei. This kind of booking is really ridiculous. When my Ds got into the portal, it appears that most teachers' time slots are already booked. I wonder if this really serves any objectives and if everyone is given a fair chance to meet the teachers.Dear parents,
remember to go to Parents' Portal to book your session with the teachers. -

When was the portal open for booking and when did your Ds get into the portal? Since it is first come first serve, everyone has a fair chance. I believe if you log on first, you are going to get your preferred slots. But if there are no slots let at all, then I suppose you can call/email to complain?? -
wiimum:
Booking actual starts 17May, 8am. Because both encountered difficulties getting into the Portal even the day before, he got in probably 8.20am.Nutty mum:

I logged in on the first day at about 8.15am and true enough, some slots have already been ‘booked’. I believe the teachers have block booked most of these slots too as they might want to see these pupils’ parents. This happens to my girl’s school (MGS) as well.

My ds's science teacher is not available for the 2 days, so all the slots were marked as booked. -

This is exactly what I meant, you simply do not have a chance to speak to the teachers. I believe those parents that the teachers wish to meet should not be included in the same slots bookings. They should be allocated outside this booking slots. This is like first-come-first-serve basis.Puffer:

For my ds, only 1 teacher is \"not available\" for the full 2-day period and that's because he is on reservist. There could be other reasons why a certain teacher is not available during this 2 days, parents can email or call the teacher to arrange to chat on another day, if necessary.8228:

If you have logged in within 15 minutes from its opening on the first day, you would see close to 50% of a particular teacher's slots been booked - if this is not 'block-book', then that was really fast acts by some parents! -
Puffer:
Yes, could be fast acts by some parents, including you and mewonderm:

This is based on my experience from the past few years. Of course, I can't say for every case, best to find out from the child, as the teacher would have told the class if he/she block booked to meet certain parents. -
Puffer:
DS said some of his classmates are given form to inform that the teachers need to meet their parents. So maybe it's true that there's \"block book\".wonderm:

Hi all, Term 2 results are out on our DS I-Comp for marks checking :yikes:
Thanks Chandelier!!!!
Btw, DS shared that there's weightage allocated for each assignment under English & Higher Chinese. We're not suppose to sum up the marks & divide it with the total to determine the grade. -
Hi, all
Can I check with those having DS in sec 2 this year on how student are selected for special programs eg BSP, SMTP etc? meeting the min MSG<2? Any special advantage when in JC or applying to U? or Or is it better to just stay in the normal IP program for lesser work load since all lead to HCJC? -

Special Programmes include getting an A1 in the subject in matter and MSG <2.0Hi, all

BSP: HCL
SMTP: LSS and IM
HP: IH and ELL
Advantage? In JC, it will allow you to enter more easily as you have gone through a tougher curriculum.
Applying for U. Well, if you have the experience in more research and higher-order learning, it will definitely make your son stand out. However, it is not said explicitly.
That depends on your son. If he can handle and it passionate then a greater workload shouldn't be a problem. -
Hi,
Anyone know of Lit Tutor around in the East? Dun mind going to the tutor house if travelling is not too far. -
Hi All,
If your DS was via DSA to HCI previously, could you kindly share your experience on the format of DSA test on English and Chinese. MCQ or Open-ended or both?
Next the group diagloue (interview) consist a panel of interviews for a group of students. If it is the latter, how do they assess on the student performance as it is just like debate, whoever is faster in answering will the lead the conversation and other students may not have the chance to add on if the first speaker cover the topic comprehensively.
Please help -
sama:
I don't know/remember the format for written tests. As for group interview, don't need to worry, every child is given a chance to respond to the questions. Most of the questions are looking for personal views or responses, so no risks of earlier speaker covering everything. As in all interviews, it is not just the answers that are important, the way they are answered are equally or more important to the interviewers. So if a child is very shy or passive in such dialogue, it does reveal something about the candidate, I suppose.Hi All,

Is yours for mainstream or GE? If not wrong in the past for mainstream the interview is quite relaxing more like chi chat but GE ones are challenging, no debate , don't worry.Hi All,

My DS was from GEP and went in HCI via DSA. He said the interview was relaxed, and not being pressed hard for his views.

My understanding is the school is looking for a \"good match\", student that sincerely wants to study in HCI.
