Is it too late to rent a place within 1km of the school I am intending to apply for under 2C for this year registration? Is that any written guideline from moe about how long we should be staying at the rental place before July registration date?

Unless you intend to stay in the rented place for the duration of your child's tenure in primary school, please do not use that address to get priority in registration. You could be depriving someone who stays near the school from a place in the school, and if you are found not to be staying at that address sometime later, your child will face the trauma of being forced to leave the school for another school.

Yes, I do intend to stay at that place if I go along that path…I do not believe in subjecting the child to more than an hour’s journey on the school bus…


For my case, it is a matter of relocating to be enrolled in Phase 2A1, or relocating to be enrolled in Phase 2C in another school. But the Phase 2A1 location is really far from my workplace (more than 1.5hrs each way), thus the 2nd thoughts now…

As mentioned, I bought a property which is currently under construction. So, technically, I cannot change our NRICs to that address. For using an address which is under construction, I think it is allowed as long as I can proof ownership and TOP of that property must be within x years from my child's P1 admission. Am I correct?

Yes. For property under construction during P1 registration, you may use the address if you move in at the end of your child's P2 education.

You don't use the address just to give your child an edge in the registration. You must truly be staying at the address that you use.

As I mentioned previously, you can only use the Bt Timah address if your NRIC reflects this address, unless the property is under construction, like in the case of your Bishan property.

So, if you have to choose between St Nicks or Nanyang, you will have to change the address in your NRIC.

There is nothing in MOE's rules that states the minimum occupation period required before you are allowed to use the rental address.

Do you intend to serve for a really long time at your current workplace? If you have worked there for >5yrs and really like it there and think you can stay till retirement, then maybe you can make the decision based on your workplace... if not, then I don't see any point in making a school / home decision based on your current workplace. That is a constant that can change.

If your alma mater is a good school, get that seat there first. You don't need to move within 1km of your alma mater but can move to a place in between your workplace and your alma mater to shorten the travelling time.

Another factor to consider is 6 years’ later, the location of your child’s secondary school may be different from that of your child’s primary school.

It seems like the proximity are determined by the address stated in our NRICs. What happens if my wife and I register ourselves with different addresses? My wife at AMK (1km from St Nic) and myself at bishan (1km from Ai Tong)?

Ok..... I am not just Kiasu.....but very very kiasu. If we volunteer ourselves for these 2 schools so that we qualify for Phase 2B in both schools. Can we then determine the registration-to-places ratio cumulated in the first 2 days of Phase 2B registration and then lock our choice (between St Nic and Ai Tong) based on the school with favourable ratio on day 3 (Tagging along the applicable parent's address)?

i heard from my friend who is in school admin that if both parents nric shows different addresses, they will take the father’s address as the registration address unless there’s some document (like custodian issues) to support why mother’s address should be used. I thought you mentioned you are stationed overseas, it would be tough to do PV isn’t it? Phase 2b traditionally has 2 days of registration. so you have to decide by day 2 afternoon in 2b.
