My 9 year old heartily recommends Jeff Stone’s 5 ancestor series for active boys. It is like watching a shaolin gongfu flick in words. He raced through the books. Available at NLB. -

You can try easier books like Hardy Boys, the adventure books by Willard Price, Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence. I can't remember more as my kids are older now. You could take your son to NL and let him browse.Hi lexmark
