      vinegar:
but, they still use local (china) water, vegetables or meats to make the food, canned food, preserved food,etc...

If they have good processes and QC, they will also conduct their own checks and use their own purification processes before using the raw materials.

        slmkhoo:
I think it's important to distinguish between 'made in China' products which are manufactured by foreign investors and those made by China companies. Usually, the foreign investors have higher standards and better QC, so the products are generally safer. For those products manufactured under foreign investors which have been found to have questionable ingredients, it's usually because they have been introduced somewhere along the distribution chain by unscrupulous middlemen, so those which are exported are generally safer as they don't enter the China distribution chain as much. You notice I use 'generally' and 'usually' a lot because nothing is 100% safe, even when manufactured in the US or Europe. Also, trust Singapore's AVA - they are usually strict and careful. I've lived in China 10 yrs, and it's not as bad as the international media and scaremongers make out.

        Totally agreed! :goodpost:

Agree. Reputable companies will audit the source.

Not just go market shopping and buy off the shelf.. generally. they choose the supplier carefully and go to the factories to check.

In Singapore? There is a Coke plant in the city I live in, and we find the Coke sold here doesn't taste as nice - too sweet and not as gassy. I hope it's not sold in Singapore!

Beware of true blue China products like the Chinese tea leaves. My church friend from China who has been living in Singapore for the past 12 years says that she doesn't buy them anymore. The farmers use pesticides banned for use on tea.

                Tea is healthy? Think again.

My friend worked in China and said the strawberries he bought had red colouring coming off when he washed them…

Since there is a possibility of corruption in the supply chain there, I worry about the excessive/banned pesticides that may be used so I avoid their fruit and vegetables where possible.

And does the AVA check the food products brought in by parallel importers and sold by shops like Valudollar?
