Haha. Thanks! Please don't get me wrong. We are currently based overseas and will be returning back to Singapore in 2014 or 2015. Since we have that option, we are flexible in our place of residence.

As a parent, I understand where you are coming from.
      hweepang:
I guess, I am a Kiasu father, and our residence will much depends on her school.
I know. That's why you are here, right? 🦆 :siam:
      hweepang:
I'm now studying the various options and its viability. Is the above possible?
As I mentioned previously, you can only use the Bt Timah address if your NRIC reflects this address, unless the property is under construction, like in the case of your Bishan property.

So, if you have to choose between St Nicks or Nanyang, you will have to change the address in your NRIC.

It seems like the proximity are determined by the address stated in our NRICs. What happens if my wife and I register ourselves with different addresses? My wife at AMK (1km from St Nic) and myself at bishan (1km from Ai Tong)?

Ok..... I am not just Kiasu.....but very very kiasu. If we volunteer ourselves for these 2 schools so that we qualify for Phase 2B in both schools. Can we then determine the registration-to-places ratio cumulated in the first 2 days of Phase 2B registration and then lock our choice (between St Nic and Ai Tong) based on the school with favourable ratio on day 3 (Tagging along the applicable parent's address)?

        Hweepang,

i heard from my friend who is in school admin that if both parents nric shows different addresses, they will take the father’s address as the registration address unless there’s some document (like custodian issues) to support why mother’s address should be used. I thought you mentioned you are stationed overseas, it would be tough to do PV isn’t it? Phase 2b traditionally has 2 days of registration. so you have to decide by day 2 afternoon in 2b.

You are not considering NYPS anymore?

You don't have to change your NRIC to reflect the address in Bishan. You can produce the S&P Agreement during P1 registration to show that you have a property that will TOP before your child reaches P3 (latest end of your child's P2 education). Your chance with St Nicks is next to zero if you change your address in your NRIC to Bishan because the school will use your NRIC address, not your wife's.

As for PV, I am not sure how favourably the Ai Tong principal will evaluate your application just by producing the S&P Agreement. She may give priority to parents who are already staying within 1 km from the school. I thought you were a SHHK member? Maybe you should consider contributing your time and effort as a PV for SHHK, although there is no guarantee you will ultimately receive the highly coveted letter that qualifies you to P2B. How long have you been a SHHK member? Since you are currently overseas, I presume you have been a dormant member? SHHK now requires members to contribute their time before they will be considered for recommendation.

BTW, Ai Tong PV applicants need to ballot to serve as traffic wardens. Only 10 will be allowed to PV.

Both schools targeted are schools that have super tough balloting. Around 2 kids : 1 seat.

You must be prepared for Plan C at Phase 2C Supp which would most likely be the neighbourhood schools around AMK or Marymount Convent (also balloting at P2CS >2km).

Since you have an upcoming property in Bukit Timah, would actually suggest you try to volunteer at NYPS coz Phase 2B balloting at NYPS is surprisingly not as competitive as St Nick’s or Ai Tong. A friend got into NYPS by simply PVing and staying within 1km. You can use the Sales agreement to apply.

At Phase 2B, there is competition between:
CHIJ St Nicholas - PVs, grassroots, Catholics
Ai Tong - PVs, grassroots, SHHK members
NYPS - only PVs and grassroots

And if you really get balloted out of NYPS, you can still try for St Margaret’s at Phase 2CS.

            Qms,
isn’t it compulsory for married couples to put the same NRIC address when registering for P1? I thought MOE only allows divorced couples to have different addresses shown on their NRICs during application…

I think he's too late to PV at NYPS. His child was born in 2009. I read somewhere that NYPS' PVs start clocking hours at least two years before the actual registration.

From the reply that I provided the link in my last post, NO, it's not compulsory for married couples to show the same address in their NRICs. In the event of a difference, the address shown in the father's NRIC is used.

Thanks! This is good information. I'm not sure how to work around this. But considering my flexibility in my home address and since I'm based overseas ....the reason for different address can still be justifiable?.....

The property under construction is the one at Bukit Timah, not Bishan.

Actually, the situation is quite frustrating. One main factor of buying that property was for the Ai Tong address (of course near my in law as well).

We bought it in 2010, and based on the latest statistics then (2009 data),
there is no need for balloting in Ai Tong's Phase 2B within 1km.

I was SHHK member since 2008 or 2009. Based on criteria then, the recommendation letter is generally awarded based on seniority of membership and distance. No needs for PV etc.

My circumstances then was like.....\"bao jia\" (Mao Shan Wang/D24 standard). Unfortunately, Liu Lian uncle change rules when it comes my turn for registration.

May I know the latest requirement for SHHK's schools? I heard it is membership + PV. Am I right? Any idea on the no. of PV hours required? If 40 hours is required, then it seems likes it makes not much difference having that SHHK membership or not.

Born in 2009, application for Ai Tong and St Nicholas PV is this year. You mean NYPS PV application is a year before other schools? :?

Interesting info re different addresses for couples.

SHHK membership is eligible for Phase 2B, provided SHHK issue you the eligibility letter. Every year, there are more requester than available space, so the SHHK selectively issue out the letters. Some said they based on how active the members are in SHHK activities.

PV is also under Phase 2B. PV has nothing to do with SHHK as it is with the school. The schools decide the number of PV to take each year. And those who performed the required number of hours of volunteered work will be issued with the letter.
