Tomorrow morning is pancake day for me! Ay, wait, how much flour and eggs har? Baking soda - 1 teaspoon, vanilla essence - 1/2? Milk, I will add until consistency is right, correct?
Pancake- I make my own batter these days.
Plain flour (with some oats thrown in), milk, eggs, vanilla essence and baking soda- all whisked til lumps disappear/ reduced and cooked accordingly!

But soda has to be a pinch or 1tsp like you mentioned (once i 'overloaded' and the taste was.... :!: vanilla essence yea 1/2 to 1tsp according to your batter quantity.
Usually one egg for batter that makes 4-6 pancakes, depending on pancake size

The fact is it is not troublesome at all.... Pancake mix is the simplest of all to do for a quick fix of breakfast as long as you have flour, milk and egg. -

must so troublesome, meh? can use premix right? got preservatives? not so healthy, is it?[/quote]Premix also ok, but I think original is fresher and definitely cheaper. Also, I often wonder why there's no egg required for the pancake premixes... maybe they added some artificial egg in there or something...

To get over the baking soda part, just use self-raising flour, I think it should work. -

To each his/ her own lah :celebrate:
I used to buy pre-mixes too and always add milk instead of water even latter is only required.
My boys love pancakes and if i did not hve the pre-mix then v leceh when they ask and I cant make for them.
Since we buy plain flour to make pizza and other Indian rotis, i experimented one day and it turned out great! And as you get used to it, its really easy-peasy
Just try once if you have the ingredients at home
Its not just about preservatives alone, its less costly and you can make it healthier by adding flaxseed or wheatgerm etc, less packaging etc etc
I shall keep my eyes open next time I go sheng siong. So far i hve only seen a variety of flour...

Those who enjoy cooking with children or make home-made goodies, you may want to try this:

Must admit that I have never tried making anything with gelatin!
