Hi Joy ! So you not getting any maid ?

I find that kids without maid at home, can be more independent and love the home more.

I stopped having maid when dd was 10 years old and the first question she asked me was \"So who is gg to pour water for me ?\" :x   After hearing that, I was more determined to stop having a maid.

Now, we are getting used of not having one. Sometimes I would try to test her, how about getting a maid ? She said its so weird to have a stranger at home. 😄

          Hurray for you!!!! :celebrate:
My kids say the same thing, now that the maid is out of the doors. My daughter commented that at least no one steals her shampoo and sanitary pads anymore. The maids didn't bother to replenish their own (I gave them an allowance to do that, because I didn't know what they like), so would always want to use my girls'. Would you believe it? Privacy is great!

I am a SAHM and I have been without a maid for over 2 months. Initially, after the maid left, I was full of anger with the mess she left behind for me to clear. Each day, I discovered new mess, and I’ll be frank over here I’m still on my trip of discovery. I grew up with a maid taking care of my needs until I went overseas during my school days. After my marriage, I continued using a maid. 5 maids since here. 1st, worked for 4 years. She was very good with my baby and took great care. I sent her off on her fourth year due to the havoc she created in my family among my siblings. I think she was comfortable with us, that were why she was so daring to ‘speak’ her mind out. My 2nd maid worked for me for 4 years plus. Why 4 years plus when each contract bind them for 2 years? She told me that she will continue to work for me and asked me to pay for her passport renewal. That was fine. She took care of my toddler very well but on household chores, she was zero. I was fine with that too because my toddle adored her. After her passport renewed, she applied for a domestic work in oversea from Singapore. And she had an affair with my child’s playmate father. His wife stormed to my home angrily but weirdly though, I wasn’t angry with my maid. I was more worried if that man she had an affair been on my bed with her! I used to travel a lot. Anyway, I was glad to let her go and recently after 2 years plus of hiatus, she called my child on the mobile. I wonder how she got the number because when she left, my child didn’t own one yet.

Anyway, after she left, a new replacement came and worked for me for 2 years. She is my 3rd maid and the Best! My child was then older and I didn’t need her to take care. Her job was mainly washing and cooking simple meals. I cooked most of the time while she did the washing. I spent a lot of time training her but unfortunately, her family needed her to be home. She trained my next maid. The 4th maid, turned out ok under her supervision. After Best maid left, this Ah 4, became lazy and dirty. I don’t want to talk about it over here because it’s a long story. Let’s just say.., even if she’s willing to work for me without a pay, a BIG NO THANK-YOU! She worked for me for 2 months plus, and a Flip of 5th replaced her. She worked for me for 2 weeks. Cried everyday and asked me to send her back to agency. I sent.

As a SAHM and a fulltime maid to my home is getting really miserable for me. Initially, it was great and I was full of energy and positive. But, I’m beginning to feel awful these days. Household chores and cooking are peanuts to me. I’m a clean and neat freak and I know if I want to remain as such I have to clean everyday. I’ve been doing so and finding them not at all a chore. However, it’s so tiring to clean after living things. I’m becoming very miserable because every morning, waking up cleaning and cleaning nonstop without having a life. Oh yes, I cleaned because I love my family but what about me?? I’ve left with no time for myself to do the things I want to do. Simply like, reading or even simple thing like staring at the blank wall for 5 mins (relaxing mind)

A partimer came in for 4 hours once but that didn’t help much and left a lot of mess for me to clean after her. Why am I ‘complaining’ over here?? I don’t know really. All I know is I’m feeling very lousy 😢 and it’s depressing to see that my weigh is going down each day. I’m slim to start off but turning to a boney. Maybe, I need time to adjust my life and learn to accept it coz the thought of having another maid really scares me hell. (That 4th maid gave me nightmares.) Thank you for reading.

I know what you are going through. I had 15 maids to give me nightmares. In any case, try a part-timer. FLIM is using a husband and wife team and it seems to work. I also have no maid now.... It's the start of an academic year and there are lots to do. Things will settle down and so will you. Perhaps don't need to be perfectly neat and clean? Close one eye and give yourself a break once in a while.

Maybe leave the kids with a friend or parent over the weekends some time?

Hi mocharita, one thing we have to learn, from the stage of having maid to no maid, is to to lower our expectation. The house would never be sparking clean and neat as before. We have to bear with that, do our best and not tired ourselves up. Also try to get all family members to be involved in housework.

Without maid, we only mop the floor once a week, the most twice a week. Sweep or vacuum the floor, twice or thrice a week. Wash the toilets, once a week.

For cooking of dinner, I would prepare all the ingredients on Sunday, pack it by day, in container. Every morning, I would cook the soup for 1/2 hour, wash the vegi and put in a plastic bag into the fridge. So at night when I reach home, abt 7+, I simple heat up the soup and simply fry a vegi, meat and a side dish (can be egg dish, beancurd or fish). We have very simple meals on weekdays and eat well on weekend.

You can also make use of hightech equipments like irobots vacuum cleaner or dish washer as suggested by other parents here.

Don't be so stress up, its fine if the house is not sparking clean. Most important is the peoples who live in the house are happy. 😄

Agree with daisyt, lower standards a bit. I used to change bedsheets twice a week, now, maybe fortnightly...

If you really feel bad, go get a part-timer or get a maid back. Snoop around and see whose good maid is leaving. You might be able to find...
                  Must be happy.

I understand that the irobot vacuum cleaner needs long hours of charging before use. like 2 hours of charging for 1 hr of usage. Is that true? Can users of the gadget comment?

It charges for 2+ hours and you use it for 1.5 hours. 20 mins per room, 1 charge can last about 4 rooms.

If you buy the lithium ion batteries from US, it charges faster, I think 1 hour and you can use it for 3 or so. My new battery has not arrived.
