Hi, I’m staying in Kovan area and would like to find a good ballet school (including those classes conducted in CCs) for my 4yo.

      Any recommendations? Thanks!

Hi, I am newbie with this Forum. Currently looking for a new ballet school for my girl (K2). Started ballet last October with Crestar (Hougang).

Given a choice between SBA and TSOD, which one should I go to?
(considering not knowing at this point of time if my girl will stay with ballet for a long time but would like her to get the right exposure and teacher whom can inspire and engage her while teaching the right techniques and have fun?)

        Would appreciate any advice
wat i read in this forum so far is tat TSOD seems to garner more good mentions than SBA.

are you looking for CSTD or RAD?

some teach both. there are crestar @ kovan. the rest is CCs which they are mainly RAD based. and they only start getting new students in Mar. normally they dun allow new students class easily.

            Hi,

Can I check what is the entry age for RAD exam?
My girl will be turning 6 next year and she will be taking her first RAD test next exam.
            Is that considered too slow?
            Thanks.

              Hi,

For Grade 1 taking next year, she need to be 7 yrs old as if 31 dec 2013. I believed pp and primary level, it should be ok but you need to check with the school and confirm.

hee hee, maybe my girl and your girl end up same class next yr, around April 2012.

meanwhile, this yr i enrolled her for chinese cultural dance at DES (Dance Ensemble school) diagonally located across the road to SBA, both also along Waterloo street. DES also combine simple chinese ballet steps into their chinese cultural dance. It's 2.5 hrs duration per session, costs $270 for 3 months.

so far, she's enjoying it. DES not just teach dancing alone, but also incorporate politeness, good mannerism and culture into their dance curriculum. eg: they teach kids how to hold chinese tea cups properly, lift the cup up properly, bring it to the lips to sip tea gracefully, how to address elders, parents, honorable guests, visitors to drink tea Then they also teach kids how to recite 'di zi gui', some chinese nursery rhyme, some singing, before chinese cultural dance begin. Every half yr there is performance. End of this yr 6 December, there is performance at NUS University cultural centre.

it's taking some effect. When i bring my 3.5 yo girl house visit, she use 2 hands to hold the chinese cup delicately, and invite her uncle to drink, saying in Mandarin 'Uncle, please drink tea'. I din teach her this. She learnt it from DES school.
                Hi phtthp
I just brought dd for trial class past weekend. She seems to enjoy it. We are considering betw e 10am and 1pm slots for logistic reasons. But I also realise there's different teachers for the 2 classes. Are there any teachers that you think you would strongly recommend? Or u think doesn't matter? Tku.

Hi not sure if you have already enrolled your girl but my advice is purely from a parent whose child has been with TSOD for many years. Well, the school is a performance based school that provides a good platform for girls who loves to dance and perform. Other than ballet, the kids are also encouraged to take up jazz and tap. The good ones are selected for yearly competitions that helps to boost confidence. This also helps to build up their portfolio for DSA. My DD loves to dance so this school is just right for her and she has auditioned with a few schools for DSA-Dance. Regarding SBA, I think they are more focus on ballet and grading. Not sure if they send their girls for dance performances or not.

dancepointe too is a good school that encourage students to take up other form of dance with their foundation in ballet. DD just completed her jazz exam (ATOD) after 3 months of preparation & coaching class they passed with a cert. that’s not my point, DD loves dancing more than before, she was exposed to jazz steps, the up beat song and the moves… one of the comment from the ATOD examiner was her smile, she smiles throught the dance ! amazing right ! she said she loves jazz more than ballet now… lol but did not reject ballet as we are still continuing ballet and will take the primary exam next year.

I understand from my 6 years old daughter’s ballet teacher that my gal is going to take CSTD syllabus for her Pre-primary ballet exam in Nov 2013 this year. May I ask for comments on what can I expect and how can I go about preparing her on top of what her ballet teacher is teaching her?
