2013 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
-
My wife asked our neighbor whose daughter sat for PSLE last year and was told that she could not use correction tapes at PSLE. We are in panic mode too as our son is kind of perfectionist who likes his work piece to be clean and tidy. No correction tape will be a crisis for him too!!!

Please see this. But this is a few years ago and on O-level.

Cancel mistakes neatly…try to avoid using correction tape as much as possible.
When answer scripts are pressed/stacked on each other for a month before marking, correction tape to cover mistakes can easily stick to paper on top and reveal what should not. So, canceling wrong answer is safer. -
I read the old thread on advice against using correction tape last year. But one of DS's teachers this year actually insists on correction tape.... So I'm :scratchhead:
-
my dd said her ft says no correction tape. need to cancel out neatly. dd’s school had a PSLE briefing in school about this, hence she’s sure it is so.
reason being some bad quality correction tapes may flake off and revealing wrong answer. -

That's the scary part...revealing what should not be. Cancel wrong answer neatly...safer in my opinion...especially with that kind of tension. Be safe.my dd said her ft says no correction tape. need to cancel out neatly.

For Chinese, is the comprehension open ended normally harder for HCL or CL? :?

I should think it's tougher for HCL. -

Composition and comprehension are more difficult for those taking HCL...that's for sure bcos the kids are stronger in MT...I understand kids doing HCL can only do 命题 kind of composition.kiasuparentsirock:

Hi
Please see SEAB’s reply (dated 17 June 2013) regarding use of correction tape in the PSLE:
We would like to clarify that SEAB discourages the use of correction fluid/tape
in the PSLE to safeguard the interests of pupils.
Based on our past experience, we found that the use of correction fluid/tape can affect the performance of pupils and the legibility of their scripts.
Examples of these include:
1) Pupils forgetting to write in their answers after applying correction fluid,
because they went on to answer other questions while waiting for the correction fluid to dry.
2) Pupils spending time waiting for the correction fluid to dry or reapplying
correction tape to mask their original answers, before proceeding to answer
other questions. This results in some loss of time.
3) Pupils writing answers when the correction fluid is still moist, thus
rendering their answers illegible.
4) Correction fluid adhering to the opposite face of the answer script, causing
answers on the opposite face to be smudged.
5) Correction tape causing opposite faces of the answer script to be stuck to
each other. Separating these pages during marking could cause damage to the scripts and hence affect the legibility of answers.
Nonetheless, we would like to assure parents and students that while the use of correction fluid/tape is discouraged for the reasons given above, pupils who
use correction fluid/tape will not be penalised for it.
Lastly, you may wish to know that in general students will not be penalised
should they use gel pen for their examination although it is not recommended. There is also no standard guideline to the type of pen that the student should use, thus you may wish to use any standard ball point pen for the purpose of examination.
