Should be around 80+% to be comfortable in the IP. Year 1 results have no weighting, and CCA achievements will have little weighting (unless relevant to the IB in Year 5). There will be some gap, but demoralisation is a function of the character of the student and his family/peer support interactions.

Express-stream students entering the IP fare well, but that's because the bar is set high enough in the first place. If he isn't strong in Eng/Lit, it is advisable for him to develop those skills because they are essential for further development in any future career.

IP places are easy to estimate (you can't predict the exact number in advance). Count how many IP classes there are in the existing Y3. Multiply by 32. This gives you a rough limit on how many students will be in next year's IP. Since this includes Year 2 IP students moving up, the remaining places are far fewer and would also include a few imported scholars and transfers from other schools (quite rare).

Hi, can anyone share what’s the cut off point for acjc as well as acsi (entry to yr 5 IB)?


If my ds does well enough for o level, should he even consider going the IB route or the a level route? I was told by one parent that those students who joined acsi yr 5 after o level generally do better than the IP boys because the IP boys are to so trained in the same intensity (exams). Any views on that?

ACJC and ACS(I) are both somewhere around 6 points now. If your DS does well enough to go for the O-level route, that's fine; bear in mind however that he will then need to do well to get into ACS(I) IB, because there is no automatic entry from the Y4 O-level cohort.

All IP schools have an interesting problem with lack of tough exam practice (since cutting down on exams was the main point of the IP schools). Research has shown serious differences between IP and non-IP intake at RI and HCI. However, remember that the non-IP intake would have been the cream of the crop, the best of all the academically 'best' applicants. For the IB cohort at ACS(I), this difference is not significant at the final output.
