I don't know about last year cos' my DS just started at NYPS this year.
Are u talking about King's Rd leading into NYPS?
We were pre-warned and knew that King's Rd from Bukit Timah Rd leading into NYPS and exits from NYPS would be jammed
and I actually saw how bad it was on the 1st day of school. The situation was worsen by rain.
So from day 1 I told my DS to be prepared to walk in from Bukit Timah Rd and that was what he did with his mother on the 1st day
instead of getting getting stuck in the traffic.
Since then we recce the area and discovered a few entry points to NYPS.
Avoid doing the norm and thus avoid the traffic πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰
        Hope this helps.

it has been getting from bad to worse, year on year

at first i attribute it to being the beginning of the year and new parents are not familiar with the environment....but it did not improve through out the year

blame it on many parents being more kayu and kiasu than before, not getting the kids ready to be dropped off, resulting in lots of delays at the gate and the drop off point

what parents should do is get the kids to be ready to alight, say 5 metres before complete stop at drop off point, so that the moment car door is opened, the kids can get out and go off, minimise the idle time at the drop off point and reduce the traffic build up

some ridiculous parents still stop the car, off the engine, come out and open the door for the kid, and still kiss them before getting back to the car, watch the kid go off, then drive off

i have no mercy for such parents - I will honk them non stop

True, some people are oblivious to others around them.
If everyone does this, it would speed up the traffic flow.
But won't honking make the situation more tense?
u are afterall in a residential area - pity those folks la 😎

enough of honking will get some action to do something about it, for example, residents to get in the traffic police to patrol to ensure the parents / drivers don't just park along King's Road and wait for eternity, blocking the whole road in and out. Such parents who are inconsiderate to park and wait are BAD examples for their kids and their kids in turn do the same when they got the driving licence

All that honking is just going to turn up the temperature
If u were a resident there n u work late nights
would u want to wake up early every morn to call TP?
What do u think could possibly happen?
                Tempers will flare,
the TP may come in when called to move the tracffic along
Next day, it will be as before.

I used to live along a road that had a mosque
Some parts are double yellow lined
                but they didn't care
The road was jammed every Friday and during Ramadan
n sometimes u couldn't get out nor come in.
                Residents complained.
                TP turned up occasionally
A petition was sent out by RC to residents to double yellow
                the entire stretch
                What happened? NOTHING!
The situation is still the same after many years.

What we really need is tolerance and all to be more considerate.
I make my kid walk that short distance to school instead of
getting caught up in the traffic.

U are really very considerate. Not many parents are like u.

But anyway, I have communicated many times with the school management with photo evidence. They are actually having regular feedback with TP and so the current traffic looping and drop off in school is a result of many discussions. Certain roads were changed to one-way traffic permanently or for certain hours. Worse conditions were during dismissal time and worst was when the kindergarten was using the NYPS premises (now they have moved back to their own newly rebuilt premises, phew !). There are also parents who park outside the residents and clean their car there, leaving their rubbish behind, there are also parents who damage the residents' property and just drive away (hit and run)

It is a nightmare, and many parents are parked along Coronation Road by 12.30!! We've decided to walk to school in the mornings, and I pick him up at 2 to avoid the jam. If the weather were more pleasant I'd walk to school too to pick him up but it's just way too scorching.

It's just astounding how tempers flare, and how some parents just barge their way through the narrow lanes and I've witness scrapes between cars and shouting matches as a result - well, what do you expect when you ngeh ngeh lai?? I've also seen people who barge their way in having to reverse a long distance because there's just no way to move forward! Serves them right!

Some won't let their kids walk one car's length before the school gate! THey're waiting behind someone letting their kid off and they can let their kid off too but they wait till that car has moved off then inch forward, stop and let their kid off!! Argghh!!! I'm just astounded that they can set such bad examples for their kids.

you are absolutely right - some parents are setting very bad examples for the kids who will grow up to be like them

last year one of the traffic warden was hit by one of the parents' car - fortunately nothing major. there was another traffic warden who really meant business and DISALLOWED the car in the wrong direction to pass, resulting in a huge shouting match with the VP coming out. Some of the expats behave as if their grandfather own the road, esp those angmo's wives - seen enuf!

I just deleted those photos recently, haha

 No wonder they need PVs to be traffic wardens. πŸ˜›
