Sadly, in any profession, there are always bad eggs. This forum is an eye opener for me. Never knew such people exist. I guess we do not belong to that category. Tough to comprehend their thinking.
Huh? What is a tutor for if she's not teaching the topics?vinegar:
She is always rushing n expect me to start teaching new topic to my son, then she does the follow-up.
The more I have been around this forum, the weirder the people I get to encounter!
I think for any tutor, if they cannot produce results within 3 to 6 months, I think no point keeping them. Then again the kids themselves also must put in effort. It takes great affinity to find a suitable tutor who is in tune with the kid. -

If I were you, I would have thrown her out long time ago. No second chances. What's up with them?
Lol. so true. it just means the $50 is not working for her.janet_lee88:
my daughter dislikes chinese...so i guess she is switched off during her lessons.
i told hubby i cannot guarantee him excellent results if i coach her, but if i am paying $50 every week for an F, might as well i teach myself...give me the money to buy more hair dye. -
janet_lee88:
including my son, it works out to be $115 every sat, $460 every month.

it's a risk to take out chinese tuition...but i have to think of my finances if tutor is not able to help.[/quote]Go for a tuition center which is affordable and can produce results.
2 years with no results. Too much money wasted on this tutor. Haiz.
Hope you get someone who can help soon. -
1) 1-1 tuition
2) 2 years
3) $50 for 2 hours every sat
4) end result…F.
i must have been either 1) stressed 2) blind not to realize something is wrong.
my daughter dislikes chinese…so i plan to coach her myself for the next 3 months. P-U-S-H. -

I understand your situation - feeling lousy and 1)stressed that 2) you did not realise something was wrong. Take heart - it is not entirely your fault; no blame yourself and stress up.
Since now that you are without the Chinese Tutor and depending on yourself to coach your 2 kids - maybe you can sit down with them to discuss which particular areas they are weak at. Chinese has many components and to tackle all at one go is not easy. And every child's weakness is different so work out one by one.
Erhmmm... I think don't use P-U-S-H but I would think it works better if you encourage and support.
My 2 younger ones are typical potato kids - ang moh speaking Chinese, you can call it. But I am thankful that they like to watch Chinese cartoon on Youtube, watch 9pm drama show (
selective listening) and read Chinese story books (
with HYPY for my P2 DD2). I hope to give them more support and encouragement to love this language - not only for academic purpose but to know its culture and history, slowly a step a time (baby steps if you want to name it
).
My P5 DD1 is stronger with this language and has no tuition for the subject. We are letting her to manage on her own and with little help here and there when she meets with obstacles.
Take heart, mummy Janet :snuggles: --don't stress yourself; Life is too short for us to be stressed and forget to smell the lovely flower every morning and be thankful for who and where we are  -

i taught my son chinese when he was in p1...but he was easier to teach...and also i had energy then, he being the elder one.

sec 1 chinese is out of reach for me...so i let the tutor continue with him...in my opinion, it was like 'something better than nothing'. -

she asked my son to do a compo writing from the casco (hw to score English) which i bought, without giving any guideline.I've to scratch my head n think hw to teach him to write over wkend, she just marked.
I highlighted to her that my son is weak in sentence structure, grammar,if foundation is not there, how to be \"creative\" writing??
few wk ago,she told me that she was going to get this creative writing book fr Primary 5 for my son. She said my son (who is in P3) shld b capable enuff to use this P5.....my dh n me were like
:siao: he is already struggling wf p3 compo writing, how to stuff him wf p5 creative phrases??? :slapshead:

Why don't you try tuition center?

Hey janet_lee88,
You are really my role model… You are a very hands-on mum! I can’t teach my kids… They won’t listen and I can’t make them listen… Drives me nuts every time I attempt to…
Yup, I am wondering too… Why not send them to tuition centre for their Chinese? If ou just want something that will reinforce what is taught in school… Then tien hsia is a good choice because they really follow very closely to the school textbk. Price wise should be cheaper than your 1-1…
