Hi! How to find out the actual distance from my home to the school of my choice? OneMap only states which schs are within 1km and which are within 1-2km. Please advise. TIA!

Parents have really gotten quite saavy nowadays.[/quote]I know that some schools called the parents of those in 1-2km, when the <1km is oversubscribed with SCs. So that these parents can consider withdrawing if they have other alternative sch so as not waste their 2B chance. Some parents within 1km also withdraw to go to alternative sch to avoid balloting too.

TIA.[/quote]Based on Maha Bodhi's TUR after 2B and past years' stats, it will be balloting for within 1km under 2C.

Since their child is SC and they are within 1km, they will get to participate in the ballot. They should monitor the registration stats and gauge their odds and weigh against an alternate school that they can get in without ballot, plus the school that their child will likely go under 2cs if they fail at the ballot.

I used to think, for schools that are oversubscribed by 1 or 2 (let's say 57 for 55 places), the first 55 parents should stand at the admin office and beg/persuade/bribe (kidding ah) any 'extra' parents who come after the places are full to seek their chances else where instead of suddenly subjecting the 97% majority to balloting...

just 1 extra person could make 55 ppl go from hero to zero, stress wise...

but I guess that's not how the system currently works. the schools' calling up and leaving parents to decide based on their next best alternative and doing their own risk assessment is more sensible. haha.

Check with the sch. Some sch don't even accept waitlist, while others can only do so aft 2C or 2CS, which means aft all their vacancies have been taken up.

I was also wondering aloud to my hubby just this morning.

I asked him how is it that there are 41 places and 46 registered for kh... and all sc gets in.... umean so coincidental.... 41 sc and 5 pr applied? that's why wanted to find out the breakdown but no one was able to help. same for the other schools... i also wondered. hope someone can enlighten us.

I can enlighten you on MGS, as I registered my DD. Out of the 57 that registered, only 41 SG children were <1km.
The other 16 were a mix of 1-2 & more than 2km or PR/foreigner.
There was no balloting as 2 of the 41 children were twins, which count as 1 applicant, so its 40 applicants to 40 places, though there are 41 children.[/quote]
The twin will hold the same balloting number. If their num is being picked, 2 of them will auto go in to the choice of school which indirectly means that 2 seats are taken up. I guess the principal is nice to take in all.
