If I were you, i will bring this matter, to the attention of the highest authority in moe. Ie. mr Heng swee kiat, immediately. I would prefer him to handle this issue personally, seek his opinion. Because your case is urgent & unique. He may need to contact the head of immigration dept - that who decide on approval procedure of converting pr / foreigners to sg citizenship, find out more detailed info. I will not leave this issue, to just the principal of Alexandra primary, to decide. Alexandra is a new school, first time encounter your case. Who did Alexandra primary contact or speak to, in moe ? Does that person in authority have the experience, to handle a unique, special, case like yours, before ?


The fact that you called up Alexandra on 31 July to inform them your concern- ie. before the last day of phase 2c (ie. 1 August), proved that you had taken the pro-active step. Let mr Heng discuss with the head of immigration, see whether any lee-way, to "waive" your case. If the head of immigration can help to explain situation on yr behalf, or help appeal to mr Heng, and mr Heng is able to see why & where the delay or bottleneck arise, and advise principal of alexandra to admit your child in under unique, unforseen circumstances, you may have a chance, even though 2c is already closed.

Errr....not sure whether I interpreted what you said correctly, but it seems to me that this is a case of taking up citizenship just for the sake of giving your child an edge during P1 registration.

Though I do not have to justify to you, but I want others here to know that we have been in Singapore for 15 years. We’ve contributed to Singapore economy, built our family from scratch here, and considered this place as our home. Decision to convert involve many considerations, P1 registration is one of them but not deciding factor. I dont think its big enough an incentive for people to give up their nationality.

If you really want to judge and look at it from that aspect, I think you are also judging thousand of parents who are putting in different kind of efforts and went to great length to secure a place for their children at their school of choice, moving house, renting house, doing volunteer, etc… Are all these lame moves?

Thank you for your advice, I will approach Mr Heng. Today I called MOE to ask for assistance to update my daughter status on MOE online system (I tried to register her online for Phase 2Cs now), and was told that I could bring the documents to the school, the school can help to register her as citizen. If this is true, then the Principal of APS did give me false information when she told me if MOE system is not updated, there is nothing the school can do…


I’d like to close all the discussions on my case here. I do not want to create a controversial topic to invite more unkind comments. while we still have to face with the disappointment and distress of securing a place for my daughter, the last thing I want to do is to argue in here. To mummies who gave me words of encouragement and well advice, I thank you very much and glad to know you here.

If I Am in the shoes of desperate mummy, yes, I will definitely go all out, to seek the help of mr Heng. Whether his answer is yes or no, I would still consult him. This is my own opinion & action that matter. It is fine if others like you don’t agree. We all have our own opinion.

Then I am curious… if you were here for 15 years already… why did you not get Singapore citizenship for your child when he was born, or even when he was 1 or 2? Why wait til last minute to go to apply? Wouldn’t it be safer to have converted to SC earlier? We all know that government agencies don’t work fast and this kind of thing takes time.
