All About Full-Time Maids

Wow...10years. She must have been quite good. Or you have been extremely tolerant.
As I was growing up, we had helpers who stayed with us for 8yr and 13yr. Both Sri Lankan. After so many years, there's bound to be a blurring of employer-helper boundaries and they sometimes feel like part of the family, especially to the kids.
Good luck!
Agree. 10 yrs = maid is more than quite good. What makes u think your next maid will be better? Do you think an equally expensive greenhorn can outperform her? -
Hi, I am new in getting a maid. My 1st maid should arrive in 2 weeks time if everything goes smoothly. Will like to check does u’ll install CCTV?
Will appreciate if anyone can share did u install the CCTV by yourself or engage others?
What is the cost?
What CCTV brand r u using?
If installed by yourself, where did u purchase the CCTV?
TIA -

Hi.
Sorry but for me respect is even more important than her work quality.
I can tolerate poor work if the maid has good attitude and is respectful.
But in this case, she has hurt me too deeply. -

But in this case, she has hurt me too deeply.[/quote]I agree that the attitude of the maid is far more important than the quality of work. I send back my Filipino maid of 6 years about 2.5 months back. She was good for 1st contract, I closed one eye for her 2nd contract, closed 2 eyes for her 3rd contract. I kept her not because she was good, it's because I resist changes, I was afraid that my boy will resist a new maid. But I was so so wrong.
My ex maid of 6 years pushed me when trying to snatch back her work permit. In a fit of anger, I immediately bought an air ticket and within 2 hours, she is out of my house. That was the best decision I ever made. I survived 1.5months without a maid and surprisingly, my house was much cleaner even without a maid. Now I got myself an ex-sin Indo maid, she is so far so good and gets along with my boy.
Recently I went to my friends house, her maid told me that months ago, my ex-maid told her that I need her alot, my household cannot survive without her and that I will never send her off. That explains why she was so arrogant. She thought I could not survive without her, I have proved her WRONG!!! I urged all employers, DO NOT put up with your maid just because you are afraid of changes. We should not be at their mercy. -
Exactly…we should not be at the maid’s mercy.
Whenever they refuse to follow our instructions to do the chores, they are asserting themselves to bend us to their will. It is very subtle, they slowly take over the chores and do it their way. We may just to be tired after work…to just close one eye.
We have to draw the bounderies early on. Otherwise, they start showing face when we question their work. It really becomes a power struggle, when they don’t respect you and tell you so yelling it out, do you really want to cower by keeping them in your employment? -

I agreed. I always remind my maids that no one is indispensible and everything that they do, I used to do it previously.
The intervals without a maid are physically tiring but are important because it ensures that I do not become too dependent on a maid. These periods of discomfort are important for me to widen my comfort zone. -
can you all torelate if your maid did not greet you in the morning?
-
This may be something that you need to specifically teach or tell her to do so as social graces or good manners may not be something that they are familiar with. We may take it for granted as a "should know" but it is not necessarily so.
My maids are fresh so I need to teach them quite a bit, like I teach my kids - clean teeth twice a day, wash hair daily, greet visitors, … -
my maid has been with me for 3 years… she will greet me every morning until recently… work performance drop. always on the phone. attitude all change. When i talk to her, she told me if i am not happy, send me back to agency.

Not acceptable, it is basic courtesy to greet people you meet. Even a child knows this.
