mummy OnABudget:
yeap my girl was diagonised through school to moe
My daughter is in p3...coaching her can be :frustrated:
I can't afford to wait till she goes to upper primary to know she is having this problem...once I know what is the problem, we can then work on how best to help.
Mummy on a budget,
How did you get your daughter assessed through the school? -
janet_lee88:
as it is, i am worrying for my daughter in P3 who may be mild dyslexic...don't know if she can even pass PSLE. need to send her for assessment.
The faster the intervention the better the chances of seeing positive improvements. Don't worry yourself too far for your DD's PSLE now. Just focus on the nearest best option and solution you can find for her now. DD, when younger showed mild dyslexia symptoms as well and in fact, till now think that she has processing issues but we don't have the funds or logistics to get her checked out. I just help her out the way i know how and in the ways i can.
Take heart that as a hands-on parent, YOU can make the difference in helping her out with her shortcomings. Whatever it is, do not show her your despair. Be her pillar of support and let her know it is ok that she takes a longer time to understand things. I have stopped thinking of why DD cannot cope like how other children can. I am happy that she can eventually figure things out at her own time, in her own way... as children like her will definitely have some challenges if she were to be put up in comparison with other kids her age.
:hugs: While waiting for the school's recommendation, do try to do your own reading and research with regards to the areas that she needs to work on. -
Sorry to hog this thread with a topic that is out.
The Orals last week made me worry if my daughter can even survive mainstream education.
Buds,
Did you worry if your daughter can manage/cope with daily demands of school? I pity my daughter because life is so mundane with homework everyday and she is somewhat in a world of her own.
Her processing ability is so different from my son. Even though I coach her with whatever I canβ¦not have expectations, I still worry how she can stay in the mainstream and whether she needs to repeat p3 or whatever. -

Hi. My DD struggled with Maths (60+ marks) and Chinese (<50 marks) in P3. Her school teacher suggested I get her tested for Chinese Dyslexia. I did a lot of research and was told there is no such thing as Chinese Dyslexia is either the child is Dyslexic or is not. To cut it short, I had her tested at Kids Testing and Dyslexia Centre and she was assessed to be a borderline case. With the support from school teacher and principal, we applied for MT excemption and was successful. Thereafter, her results improved and she started doing better academically, and getting \"Credits\" for NSW competitions from P5 for English, Science and even for Maths :scratchhead: Nobody will expect a child scoring low 60s marks in P3 to score around 80 marks in P6. In P6, she even achieved Distinction for Science for NSW and MOE Eagles Awards. IMO, she wouldn't have made it if we didn't exempt her from MT. Think the struggle with MT really affected her. T-score was 240 and she was accepted into the school of her choice via DSA. Thus I can confirm that exemption from MT will not affect applications for DSA. :rahrah:Sorry to hog this thread with a topic that is out.

More info of the testing centre. Fees were lower then at $500. The assessor is very strict. I tried to get my other DC exempted from MT recently as DC is not coping well with MT, but not \"successful\" as in, the assessor didn't want to recommend and I \"wasted\" the test fees!! :stompfeet:

All the best. Still have hope.

Prelims written papers begins next week back to back. Busy busy..

My DD is having her Prelims this whole week... :gloomy:

DDs prelims begin on 27th!! September school holiday extra classes for 3 days! Good idea to send for extra classes or just let her stay at home and do own revision?

Hi Janet, Maybe you could get feedback from her teachers. If necessary, go for the assessment. She will be exempted from Chinese if she is dyslexic. My P2 girl is vey active & unfocus. Somrtime I wonder whether she is ADHD. I even brought her for assessment when she was in K2. She is struggling with her Chinese too. Especially for hanyu pinyin.
so far the banding system for O and A levels are acceptable...A1, A2...etc...it is only for PSLE, so i feel that it may not take that long to make the change.buds:
He didn't say exactly which year...
Just that it will take them several years.

my dd's is for 2 days in sep hols. i'll be sending her for sure. guess it'd depend on what your dd's teachers will be doing. for mine, revision. i thought it may be useful and a change in surroundings may be refreshing from mugging at home. jmo.
