There are many big cars parked in HDB carparks. Plus these group of pple have smaller exposure to housing loans. In fact, these group of pple could be richer than those living in prime districts paying hefty housing loans and need to be on dual income arrangement.

Tell your dd these and to ignore those ignorant pple. JMHO

these kids are only in p1, I thot they only become snobbish in Sec1…

scary indeed and when you think that the kids must have gotten the idea form their parents.

brace yourself, cookiemonster. coz I doubt the qns will end there…next they’ll be asking what make of cars their parents drive, what jobs their dads have and so on…

Well i did hear from my fren whose kid was in the lower primary school then (in so called elite school) that her child dared not invite friends to their hdb home. Apparently some of her classmates look down on hdb kids…oh gosh…this is more common than you think. Oh dear …i fear for the future generation that will be so class conscious…

Do let us know if your kid's school is in the prime area to solicit such a response.

My kids' school is located in the housing estate area. So quite a number of their friends stay in HDB and such questions never arise.

But if the kids really behave that way. That is really sad. It probably reflects the kind of parents they have....

Hi, this is the 2nd wk for my DD in P1 & sch mates hv asked her where & what type of accommodation she stays in. She gets the cold shoulder after telling them that she stays in a HDB.

I reminded & explained to her that we came close to buying pte property 2x while hse hunting but eventually settle for a HDB so that it wld be near her sch & we can afford to hv a single income.

But her concerns are that her sch mates are shunning her. Does anyone here hv encountered this & what is yr solutions to this? Can share 🙏

                Many thanks & bless u.
Which school your DD is in ?

Cannot be the whole school, every student lives in private property, right ?

Anyway, there is nothing to ashamed of to be living in HDB !!

My kid mentioned they also liked to talk about where they travelled during school holidays… I told her not to indulge in such talks too much cos there could be years we might not travel at all during school holidays.

Precisely, what is the point living in Private property with both mum & dad working but kids brought up by maids. Kids will grow up with maid's value, notwithstanding the amount of money the parents have.

Isn't it better if the kid is brought up by full-time mummy even though in HDB ? This way the kid will grow up inheriting the mummy's values ...

That said, I have also seen super rich families with super humble character ...

This is the main reason why I want to put my kids in a neighbourhood school, where most kids stay in HDB.

There is no end to comparison. Even if you say you live in a bungalow, someone else will say that they live in an even bigger bungalow. Besides comparing houses, they will also compare cars, clothes, shoes, etc, etc. This is something that I really detest.

I want my kids to grow up knowing what is hardship, so that they know how to work hard to get what they want. My boy asked me why his cousin's house has 3 storeys, and our flat is so small. I told him that if he studies hard, when he grows up, he can buy an even bigger house for mommy 😉 He immediately agrees 😉

I dont see such norm in my girl’s school even she is from one of the elite school.

Its more so the parents that looks down, not the kid.
