Since the first PSLE paper starts on Thursday, I am comtemplating whether to keep DS at home on wed to recharge. Will school give important instructions pertaining to PSLE on wed? I am not concerned where ‘revision’ is concerned as it is too late to do anything by wed.

school after a big whooha turn down to help me apply called moe already and even going mp this evening boh bian hubby said i am crazy want to fight so much for just that 15mins excess time but to me that excess time can do alot of good instead of harm for him

I know this question had been asked many times. What time does your child sleep during weekday and weekend? I am getting worried here as I have been hearing children that sleep at 2am. DS has a classmate that sleeps at 1.30am each night and she is doing better than DS. Sorry I am kiasu here (but isn't this kiasu parents forum?).

When I hear such stories, I usually wonder whether they are actually true (ie. one night staying up to 2am gets inflated by word-of-mouth to every night), and also what these kids are actually doing with their time. I know that kids can easily seem to be working, but they are actually day-dreaming, surfing (but quickly hiding the screen when parents are nearby), constantly interrupted by sms etc from friends etc. Even we adults cannot work solidly for so many hrs a day, what more 12 yr olds! To answer your question, my daughter, when in P6, slept by 9.30pm every night, and rarely did any work after dinner. She had no tuition and only 1 afternoon supp. class, so she did her work from the time she came home (usually 3pm) till dinner. Even now, in sec2, she sleeps around the same time, but now she sometimes has to work till 9pm to finish her work and revision.

We have a deal with our kids - they work hard, then they get to play and relax, and I will bite my tongue when I want to ask them to do more! And they do not have access to phones or any networking sites while studying. We have convinced them that no-one needs to contact them so urgently that 3 hrs will make any difference.

The curfew is 10pm.


Very seldom need to finish sch work till so late.

Reason for missing curfew is:

1. need to do late notice big biz
2. mosquito or other insects in the room, must kill before can sleep peacefully
3. noise from upstairs unit

I always tell my children: be grateful u can sleep early now. When u r older, there wont be another chance.

I leave ah boy to do his sch work. We hardly hv time to revise. If die die must revise with him, then might be difficult to sleep by curfew time.

A fine line to juggle - work more or rest more.

I take the \"rest more\" option - better to be alert in the morning attending school, then not to be able to absorb whatever the teacher is teaching in class, then come home to do revision with weak understanding. Double wham for us at home. Worse case - a vicious cycle n more to catch up at home.

Thank you for all your responses on sleeping time. DS usually sleeps at 11+ but he naps in the afternoon for 1.5 hours (our aim is usually 10 minutes but it is very difficult to wake him up when he naps ).

Ah boy does not take afternoon naps daily. Once a blue moon, yes. And it is always initiated by him - just take off n I did not even know until I go check on him lying on the bed sleeping soundly He will set his alarm clock to wake him up.
