Am I right :
The advantage of taking HCL at PSLE is that the child can take HCL at secondary (SAP secondary) school and hence, do not need to take AO level chinese in JC ..meaning 1 subject less at A levels.

Any other advantage besides to obvious more exposure to the language ?

you can still take HCL at Secondary 1 (even if you have not taken HCL in PSLE) if you are in the top 10% for PSLE or if you are in the top 11-30% with a A* for the CL paper. Applies to malay and tamil too.

those taking HCL at Sec will sit for the the 'O' level CL paper at the end of Sec 3. And another paper at Sec 4. If pass, no need to take chinese in JC.

Oh really ? Have not heard of it before. GEPpers do not have HCL bonus points when entering SAP schools in Sec 1?

Not true. There's no difference between mainstream and GEP in calculation of COPs for entry to all schools.

no diff between GEPpers and mainstream students for the COP, but the diff is if they have HCL or HMT entering SAP school

COP is the same but no HCL bonus points will be given to GEPers. My sons’ teachers told me that- I’ve already been told by 2 teachers in NYPS I don’t think they both got it wrong.

I know COP, bonus poiints, T-score are very important to determine which sec sch a kid can enter.

But knowing a language well is akin to having another pair of hands.

Dd has opted in for HCL but unsure if she can cope well.

A kid’s with a COP score of 251, with CL only, and another kid’s COP score of 248+3 HCL bonus point, who can get into a SAP school e.g RV?
