Video night? Sounds fun...what movie you are watching with your DC?

      Fast & Furious 6

DS is so excited that he is working very fast now so he can finish early and watch it soon. It is a win win for us. He works fast and works happily too šŸ˜‰ Of course he knows that he has to produce quality works because I will ask him to redo if it is not up to my standard

          Hi,

For those who had purchased the 2013 prelim papers, are they more difficult or about the same difficulty as 2012 prelim papers? I am not sure if my child will have time to do it. Thanks.
i didn't purchase the 2013 prelim papers but happened to get a few sets from different schools - both sa1 and the recent prelims. imho they are about the same as 2012 papers. so if you still have 2012 papers to do, no need to buy 2013.

Thanks John and Zeemimi. Since they are about the same, we are not getting then.

Beat the exam fatigue by treating your child to a weekend of fun at the beach perhaps? Recharge the child if the child has been doing papers after papers and have shown improvement by a grade difference in prelim.

We were going through a tough maths qn last night.

I going nowhere with model drawing method.

ah boy used Guess n Check, could not find an answer. reason: careless addition/subtraction along the guess n check method.

elder boy used algebra and solved within minutes.

My conclusion: if your child is still not skilled in algebra, do consider to spend some time re-looking at this method.

There will be one question (usu. that last qn for the crop of the cream) that will require the use of algebra under time constraints.

However, if you r willing to forgo scoring any working marks for that qn, then ignore this suggestion šŸ˜‰

jennifer, may i correct your last sentence. \"if you r NOT willing to forgo scoring any working marks......, then ignore this suggestion...\" šŸ˜‰

i think learning algebra is important. getting an answer is more important than leaving it totally blank. besides, come secondary school maths, it's all about algebra. learning it now, is an headstart. jmo. šŸ˜„

I believe that MOE has said that any mathematically valid methods (may not be the exact words because I can't remember) are OK for the PSLE? It's been 2 yrs since my daughter took PSLE, but I recall someone asked MOE and the answer was something like that.

                      oops, misunderstanding here.

What I wanted to say is: some Maths qns r difficult to solve by model drawings as this method has its limitations. Units and Parts method might be a little confusing when there are > 2 variables.

The fastest way for some qns is to do via algebra.

However, some children hv not mastered the complex algebra method (in this case, my ah boy).

In our case, I leave it to him to decide whether he wants to write sth as workings or to leave the whole qn blank.

P.S. Elder boy just found a simpler way to solve that qn. He named it \"Mdm.Ling's table method\" after his maths teacher in pri sch šŸ˜„

                        Agreed.

But if your child thinks like my ah boy, then it is a different story liao. He thinks very differently from me. I have difficulty in communicating with him the LH and RH, the preferred way of presenting the data. šŸ˜“
