I don't see anything wrong with it. You are just using an inserted clause to express the same idea.

I don't see anything wrong with it. You are just using an inserted clause to express the same idea.

Hi, depends on the emphasis writer desires...where he/she wants to draw the reader's attention to...
The prescribed answer puts the emphasis on the fact that Empire Hotel used to stand there years ago.
The second alternative answer, by inserting the relative clause, is putting the emphasis on the bareness of the land instead.

If you want to pass exams, it is \"I\". If you want to learn English as it is spoken, then \"me\". Think of the I as implicitly meaning \"I am\".

I'm probably going to regret this...
I would not complete my assignment on time unless I would be punished by the teacher.

But this sounds very clunky. Something like:
I'd never complete my assignment on time unless [I'd be punished by the teacher] / [the teacher would punish me].

Anyway, HTH. I'm intrigued to know what the model answer is.
