Perhaps because algebra is not in the syllabus, they can't say ok to use yet don't cover in Sch. It'll be like shooting themselves in the foot...

Basic algebra is taught in the syllabus.

After these few days of working out prob sums with ah boy, I feel that the Units and Parts method can be used in place of algebra. So for a child who did not go for complex algebra coaching, he can consider to adopt the Units and Parts method.

In fact, since P1…pupils are exposed to some kinda of "basic Algebra" with questions in pictorial forms instead of alphabets…(Eg the use of moon and star)…

Hence, if yr child cant really grasp Algebra…try substitute symbols/ pics to represent alphabets for better understanding…

When using Units and Parts Method…still need fundamental Algebraic Skills in order to derive final answers…

              Hi,

For English Situational Writing such as formal letter, is it a must to write the sender and recipient’s addresses OR just go straight to the salutation? Similarly for email, must they write the sender and recipient’s email addresses first? Thanks.

Yup agree. DS uses U&P because we did not teach him to use algebra to solve problem sums ( regret!). Initially, DS was very confused with using this method units and parts, but he has since become better and more confident. The only thing he 'hates' from beginning till now is model drawing! I told him this afternoon that he still need to cradle it for another 3 weeks. After that, model drawing could be out of his life for very very very long!

For Formal letter, you have to write both addressess.
For email, DS say they are told to focus on the body,no need to write both addresses.

Does anyone has a different view? pls share.

Told my boy the same thing too! 'Embrace' model method as you would only have a couple weeks with it, I said. 😂

Yep, agree too. Units and parts is a must-know.

                      No need to regret :hugs:

After using U&P for these few days, I think it is as good as algebra.

Today is 15th Sept, still hv many days to PSLE Maths paper.

For those who are still not familiar with U&P method, there is still time to pick up and become good at it.

                      Jiayou.
