Comparing English Enrichment Programmes

Can say that but my kids started with TAS young so I find they are also good at foundation but in comparing the materials, TAS's materials do seem harder.BigDad:
I have friends in LP and TAS. My kids are in TAS. I find both good in their own ways. But from comparing materials and teaching styles, I find that LP seems good in ground work. TAS's helps in techniques for comprehension, compo, synthesis. TAS's materials also seem harder at a mid primary to upper primary level.
So the conclusion is LP better for lower pri to build foundation. TAS more suitable for upper pri when techniques and applications are more important. Agree?
But I think it is really up to individual preference, what is hard to me may not be for others and what I think could be basic to others could be tough. -

I think they have forward the enrollment age for RFS. Saw N2 RFS class in their website? My DD not master writing skill yet, placement test sure fail.
You mean p1 headstart? I only know can start later (eg mid k2). You may have to check with lp directly but my gut feel is -no, cannot start earlier.lovinglife:
Isit necessary to join in K2, any earlier say K1 is acceptable? For RFS, is the programme start from N2 1st term?
Rfs starts at k1 January. Lp does not hv any programme that caters to kids younger than k1. If can start earlier, my kid would hv started when he's n2. -

Hi, I spoke to my son's current LP English teacher and yes it is correct - there will be a major revamp in the LP English standards and curriculum for all levels; she told me not to expect it to be easy:nailbite:
Hello, my friend also did a comparison with TAS and LP before.lovinglife:
I am really into dilemma now..
After comparing between LP & TAS for K2/P1 level. Below were my observed found:
Compo - TAS is really good at this area. From the technique application to method of remembering. It is helpful for a starter.
Comprehension OE - TAS has better layout and easier for young child to digest. LP at this level don't really emphasis it yet.
Basic grammar - LP really drill the child in this area. Being gone through the trial at TAS, the teacher commented my child has really strong foundation. He was able to complete the worksheet all by himself with zero mistake. All thanks to LP.
Cloze - LP has enough practises in this area. Worksheets are more challenging.
Fees - LP's term fee is $80 more than TAS. I didn't compare how many lessons though. LP is 1.5 hour vs TAS 2 hours.
Class size - same at max. 12.
Overall, LP's worksheets are generally more challenging. Their placement test is necessary to make sure the child is able to cope in the class.
LP WINS HEAD UP compared with TAS on all areas.
Also heard LP has also revamped their curriculum so 2014 potential parents do expect lots of writing (composition), comprehension in addtition to their already challenging grammar drills, vocabulary, cloze passages, sentence synthesis etc etc...together with their dedicated teachers --- all the ingredients mixed to provide the perfect recipe to be the highest scorer in your school for your English Paper 1 and Paper 2
There will be more higher order and challenging work and questions. :yikes:
After all, LP is more like an enrichment centre and not a tuition centre so their standards are very, very high...
