I feel at the end of the day we need to see where our children fit and if they enjoy the classes. Whether it’s LP, MS, TLL, TAS… Actually for me I tried a few centres but TAS was the one that really worked for my child. I’m just happy to find a centre that works! Don’t think there’s a one size fits all centre.

I feel that centres like LP and TLL only take in above average/top students so I will expect their students to do well :scratchhead:

If these centres took in weak & average students & their results are really good...then it's another story. Just my personal opinion.

My take is that they take in similar level of students so that the focus and emphasis will be similar and the level and method of coaching will be the same.

If they in a mix level, it will be very difficult to pace the level of teaching to the appropriate level...does the teacher go slow to keep up the pace for the weaker students? In that way, the students that can cope will be at a disadvantaged. On the other hand, going by the pace of the cleverer students would put the weaker students at a disadvantage.

Thus, I believe that this is a good idea to put all the similar kids together :imcool:

I really like this part about putting kids of similar abilities together. Kids can progress and learn from each other at the same time.

Yes, I agreed that kids of similar abilities should be put together. 😄

It does not work to have weak & high ability students together.

But I dun agreed....that centres/tutors are good cos they have high percentage of A & A*, especially when they select/accept mostly high ability students.

            Peace 😄

              :goodpost: Totally agree with you.

I also disagree that these centres are, therefore, better centres than those which accept students with varying abilities.

To me, each centre is providing help to different groups of students with different needs. So, it's more important to identify the needs of a child and find the right centre. For instance, as many have shared, a student with weak foundation will probably not benefit from LP and the likes.

I am with you on this.
Probably tracking the improvement of grades will be a more realistic measure on the effectiveness of the centre/tutor.... although there are many out there who are in enrichment classes not to improve but to maintain their A*s.

Yup, so true..I know of friends who used to go to centres who only take good students, after a while they realise while their kids still do well, there is no value add..good centres are those who bring an improvement, not just a maintenance.

Granted, for those getting A*s, it might be hard to see the value add but one of my friend started the migration from these centres which allow only the better students in and joined a lesser known one for Maths and English, for Science, she got a personal tutor. And her daughter not only improved in her A* grade but for Science, started to really love the subject, for English, she begin to really enjoy the process of writing and write in a less manufactured way. Then, the rest of my friends followed.

So to me, I am not so taken in by a centre's advertising of its good grades, I look more at their programmes, and the way they teach and the extra value add.

But to be fair, I do have a friend who stayed at one of the top centres which takes in the best and she finds it beneficial. So who knows..But, to me, it is better to thoroughly look through what you are signing up for before just focusing on the results advertised.

                        Hi N.Lo

I do agree with you... I am still trying to figure out about my son's P3 English & Science class next year... I didn't realise how difficult it is to decide... 😞

I know LP max 12 kids/class.., TAS max 12 kids/class as well yes...?

                        Thank You.
