Parents, if u have assessments bks which are unused or scarcely used or Textbks...

These can be donated to NTUC fairprice to support the Book Donation Drive campaign....
Dont throw them away or sell away as waste paper...

Every year, my gal takes part in this book donation drive...
in the sorting n distributing of books at the end of yr....
She shared with me that it is a very meaningful event...
as some needy parents are really in need of all these books for their children....
      :salute: to your gal.

Do they also accept assessment books? I thought only text books.

Is it Primary School books only?

Yes, they do take in assessment bks, but in good/ acceptable conditions n of coz not fully written ones....
All levels of books ....up to JC ( but very little of JC bks)...

Hi! Can experienced parents share what do parents/ students need to do during the secondary 1 reporting day (I.e. the day after posting day sometime in December)? As me and my ds will still be oversea and will not be able to attend. Thanks a lot!

You will have to fill up a proxy form so that your 'substitute' can act on your behalf. You can download from the comp, I think.
On that day, there will be a registration (by the form or co-form teacher of your ds in S1 so you get to see ds teacher), distribution of booklist, uniform list & forms, followed by a short briefing by the principal & key personnels of the sch. Some school have mini-concerts. Forms may include options for HMT & 3rd lang should you decide to opt out. For some schools, there may be a surplus of pupils applying for a particular 3rd lang so they may conduct selection interviews on the same day. Pupils who are absent will not be considered.
Uniform list will usually include the order of S1 orientation camp t-shirt. Camp usually happens on the first few days of school reopening & you won't want your ds to go without.
There will be teachers around to answer your queries should you have any.
The queues for both books & uniforms will be exceptionally long. Make sure your proxy is someone who is patient. But I think other than the camp t-shirt, the rest can be bought at a later date as the shops will still be opened after that day.

That's my experience. Perhaps other parents have more to add or correct me.

Yes, the form should be available on the MOE website. The proxy must bring his/her NRIC and a photocopy, and you also need to provide the results slip and some other documentation. This info is listed on the proxy form itself.

I think there may be a GIRO form to fill although it can be collected and handed in later. Also, I think HMT and 3rd lang are opt-in, not opt-out?

Does the parent have to be in school on the day of reporting or just the kids alone?

Yes, parent(s) should accompany their kids so as to make decisions such as to opt in/out for certain subjects, like what slmkhoo mentioned. For some schools, pupils who qualify for HMT will be given notification on that day & if pupils wish to withdraw (for some reasons), they can do so on the spot. For certain subjects like AEP or MEP, parents may opt in, etc. Also, parents should be around to check the sizes of their uniforms for them. Kids can't make those independent decisions.
IMO, the more people accompanying the pupil the better, so that one can join the uniform/socks/jacket's queue with the child, another at the books' queue, and another at the camp t-shirt 's queue, etc. It took 3 of us some 4 hours from the time of registration to heading back home.
Do prepare about $400-500 for your purchases. For conservation/recycling purposes, you may want to ask your friends & relatives for a list of books that they can pass on to your dc before buying them. Except for IPs', many schools share the same book titles in lower sec.
Btw, the day of reporting here refers to the day after the S1 posting results are released & not the first day of reporting to school when the new term starts. Then, the pupil must report to school alone. Some friends asked if they should wait at the canteen but I am sure the kids will dislike the idea. They are teenagers liao.

                    Goodluck8:

Are the child necessary to be in school to collect the PSLE result? If not, how are he going to know his result?

If child is unable to collect, then parents have to appoint a proxy to collect.
The proxy can collect result slip & S1 option form, submit S1 option form & report to sec sch.
See proxy form which will come with the book - Choosing your Secondary School
                    http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/secondary-one-posting/files/s1-proxy-form.pdf

Sorry Goodluck8 to borrow your thread on a related matter. Anybody has experience collecting the results one or 2 weeks after release iso appointing proxy? Understand that those with DSA CO, there is no participation in the S1 posting, so it's just instructions to report to Sec school. Anyone to share ?

Yesterday DS got OFF insect repellant and some mosquito repellant patches from NEA. I am wondering whether it is NEA's standard practice. I checked NEA's website and found out that there is a dengue cluster a few blocks away from his school šŸ˜“

Any of your DC ever received those? Is it really because of the school's close proximity to a dengue cluster?

DD received similar things about 2-3 months ago. Back then there was clusters around the Sch & cases were rising too. Personally, I felt appreciative of such a move
