        How old is your kid?

I enrolled him for the phonic program as he was already k2 at that time. I must admitted it\"s tough at the beginning as he had behavioral problem with short span of attention . Mrs Sam was quite strict with him .

Now , is mrs Sam still teaching ? From the website , it seems to be other teachers teaching ? During that time , the students can be as many as more than 15 . There was even a p5 student that enrolled in the program.
Now , max is 8 . I thought it is even better . Is it a lump sum committment or pay by term basis? result guranteed?
Personally , I benefited too . I learned n used it to teach my younger kids.My younger boy's classmates who went to ICR and MA still cannot read or spell the longer words as compared to my boy who is self taught by mummy at home.
If your kid is already k2 , then enroll the phonic programme. Hand writing n sight word reading can teach at home . Use the ladybird series.
Thanks for your advice. But now is already end of K1 ( only left 1 mth plus). Just worry he will left behind. I should start teaching him Peter and Jane books early this year.

Mrs Sam no longer teaching. The prep, sight reading & phonics teach by different teacher trained by Mrs Sam. There is 3 full time teacher. Teacher Mel teach phonics, she is senior. Student not many, max 8 but currently should be around 4 student per class. May be the number of student drop after Mrs Sam not teach. BTW, how old is your elder son now? It is lump sum commitment but can break into 4 payment .I not asking the result guaranteed or not.. may be can ask Plus if no result can hv money back refund.. BTW,how many lesson your son attend last time to see the result & how much per lesson ? now is ard $50+ for a lesson for 2 hrs

There is few centres such as ICR ( lot student, teacher & class), Lcentral ( not so many class with mostly full time native teacher), Zoo Phonics, Mrs Sam. I still comparing & doing survey which is more suitable for my son.

I have tried one term of ICR Little Bears Club and I find that it is not useful. They don't teach phonics at this level. I am also still searching around. How old is your son?

My boy attended the program a number of years back . I think it was 50 lessons. Cost is less $50 per lesson at that time . If no good , mrs Sam will ask the child to repeat the course without additional charge . I still remembered my boy need to go back for remedial lesson on Sunday to do the correction. Lesson time normally exceeded 2 hours . I opted for the intensive course.if i remembered correctly , twice a week . I see result by 6 months. For Mrs Sam, she want to see the result in the child since she is committed to the parent on the result . No giving up half way .

If the objective is to ensure the child to be able to master phonic within a period of time , then need to go for intensive course. Parent need to be involved too . Just merely depend on the weekly lesson from any service provider without involvement of parent to reinforce n practice at home will not be able to see remarkable result . It will take a while to see the result .

My girl at end of k1 , the childcare teacher feedback she was not able to read a number of sight words. She performed averagely. So I " digged " out the phonic material and coached her almost everyday . Within 3 months , the result is remarkable . Suddenly she is able to encode n decode words effortlessly . She started to read chapter books n even attempted to read Harry Porter . She becomes a bookworm . At P2 now, she reads a lot eg. Literature like Jane Erye , pride n prejudice , Sherlock holmes, shakespeare play , horrible science series etc. Her English result is almost close to full mark most of the time without any preparation or revision. I don’t prepare her for exam . She is on her own . So reading books do help a lot .

Hope the above sharing will help.

Early this year, I enrolled him at ICR - PRG. That time he only can recognized Letter A-z but not the sound. After 2 term, he manage to master letter sound and promote to blending sound at 3rd term. But I feel the improvement and result is slow so decided to change. If your DD is 4 yrs old, at start learn letter sound. just curious why they not suggest your DD to PRG level. She able to recognize letter when assessment ?

Thanks a lot for your sharing. I have started to read 2 - 4 storybooks every night to DD since one month ago and also letter tracing. I am not confident in doing the phonic coaching by myself as worried my pronunciation is wrong. Hence will prefer to leave this to the expert.

Will appreciate if anyone can share which phonic centre your kids have attended. TIA
