Dear tyeogh,
Your sharing on mark 11:23 had brought me tears, because it is very touching.
Your sharing had encouraged & lifted up my spirit, in this depressing world of age we are living in.
Thank you so much, for your precious, wonderful, invaluable, sharing.
It is heartening & great to hear encouraging, turn around improvement situation like yours.

Er...he is not in any enrichment center. Already tough to keep him in mainstream kindly. LoL. He is due in P1 in 2 years time. I dunno mainstream or PL. But I want to make preparations for PL. As a back up plan. So I am in the midst of transferring his EIPIC to ARC. As I understand it, there are only about 70 places in PL and it gives priority to its sister school ARC.nugget:
tyeogh,
Your son can strive well in tuition/enrichment centre? That is very good!
So I guess you will put your son in mainstream next time?
Thats a good plan but better confirm if the priority is still in place. Last I read somewhere, is still dependent on the assessment results. Probably priority is given to those ARC EIPIC students whom have passed the assessment testing. Nevertheless, is good to plan ahead.
For me, I am trying a different approach. I want to try mainstream first, if he really cannot blend in, then I will queue up again for pathlight.
If you don't mind me asking, how did you came to realize your son is mildly autistic when he is 2? -
belachanbabe:
Actually my son wasn't participating in the performance except for the last part group singing and dancing.
Desertwind and tyeogh. You guys are really strong and cool about the whole concert participation thingy, I would have strongly told off the principal already. It brought back bad memories during their younger days at mainstream kindy, after hearing that your wife cried. Seriously, these concerts should be all inclusive regardless of whether they can perform; no one expect these things to be some slick in-sync Kpop mega production what. Even standing on the stage in costume swaying to music is better than total exclusion. These concerts are meant to be opportunities for parents to take photos/videos and to be proud of their kid’s accomplishments. Haiz, so heartpain to still hear of such incidents.
That's what the teacher told me initially. But after having a thought, I requested the teacher to let them hold a prop. Be a tree or what. Those non talking roles. I say since the whole class is performing, he will feel left out if he see whole class up there.
My son had performed a dance organised by his EIPIC in front of MPs and VVIPs during a charity show. On stage and recorded on video.
There is no reason why he can't do a simple K2 grad skit by just holding a prop. And teacher allowed him to participate.
Sometimes I feel mainstream teachers just simply cast aside special need kids without giving them a chance. But to be fair, I understand that they are very stretch and very busy. Its already tough to teach, train and arrange performance. Whats more to look after a special needs.
But as a parent, if I feel my son is up to it, I feel the school should give him a chance. We have to be thick skin, and keep fighting for our child.
They are just different, not less. -
Pathlight -
How many p1 classes are there ?
Does anyone know whether pathlight give any priority ?
Ie. does pathlight prefer to accept / take in those that enter straight from kindergarten k2 rightaway, or also give equal fair chance to those kids who had tried mainstream p1 before, but find it not suitable, not conducive ?
Any pathlight parents around ? -
tyeogh:
My nephew had to eventually repeat P1. The next year, he was still not making progress in spite of having a shadow teacher. By September, his shadow teacher resigned. My brother could not find a replacement. My nephew was asked to leave the school. My brother found him a place at Kits for Kids recently.
Can I ask when was this? Last I was told by my therapist is that now even for kids who fail all subjects will still be promoted to P2. There is no more repeat in Primary School system already.
I won't mind if my son gets to repeat P1 so to learn all the foundation again than being rush to next level when he is not even ready. Workload starts to get heavy from P4 onwards. -
Double E,
high 5 back Yes, DS4 is in Faith 1. Two weeks already. Initially, I brought him to Beloved 2. Then a kind lady told me about Faith 1. I remembered what Pastor said. That if we sick, we should see a doctor but our trust is in the Lord, not the doctor. So I opted for Faith 1. He seems to be enjoying the 1-1 teacher student ratio. Your kids? You which service one ah? I go MBS 11.30pm. Star too crowded.
Nebbermind,

those prepping for PL, this is the link to the SPED application form.
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/special-education/application/
Start making your prep now even if your first choice is mainstream because you need to make appointments for psychologist assessments, school assessments and medical assessments not to mention waiting for the reports thereafter. Waitlist will be long espcially if you need KKH's referrals. You can also apply for both mainstream and PL at the same year. PL's admission deadline is earlier but you then need to wait for the assessment to be done by the school. In the meantime, register for primary one between July-Aug (this one is a bit sensitive as you might be taking up a place in a \"hot\" school). then make the decision after weighing both options carefully. -
Just got this after sending a simple email request, example of the type of patience and time required :censored:
Dear Mrs XX,
Thank you for your email to Dr XX. We have forwarded your message to both Dr XX and Nurse-in-charge.
We are currently tracing your child’s casenotes for reference. Please be informed that it may take up to two weeks for our doctors to respond to you. Kindly contact us at XX if you do not hear from us within two weeks.

nugget:
strange. I am sure 3 months ago I saw on their website that PL gives priority to ARC. I even showed my missus and we discussed it thoroughly before applying to ARC. It seems their website now omits to mention it. To those I gave a wrong impression, I apologize.

DS4 had no speech at 2. We thought he was a quiet boy. I dunno what prompted me to research more. Saw his PD to check it out just to be safe. She suggested a formal diagnosis at NUH. The diagnosis comprised of 2 tests. He met the characteristics of ADOS and fell outside the CARS. The final assessment was a \"Diagnosis Withheld\" because it is 1 out of 2 test, which is like a WTF to me, do you know what is happening to my son?? Nonetheless, it recommended early intervention. If you don't mind me asking, how did you came to realize your son is mildly autistic when he is 2?
After that kind doctor made me look stupid with the \"what private or public, do BOTH and chiong for your son!\" comment, we rushed intervention. He was 2.5 yo when we got him formal help. -
tyeogh:
Thanks for sharing. Yes, I also doing pte and public. I do believe the early intervention helps a lot. They need guidance and exposure. Good thing with your older kids around, they can help to train your son as well.

I need to manage my son expectation. Cos I believe come one day, he will not be happy when his younger bro exceed him in some ways. Cos one thing for sure, my son loves being the big brother and can be quite bossy at times. Lol.
