:thankyou:
For this thread. It will be wonderful to have this discussion going. It will definitely get heated closer to 2016.
Looking towards more exchanges

No worries, KSP will still be here to help.

I have a DS taking psle this year and a DD in 2016. DS is in a strong class but the classmates are generally still playful even right up to this point. I feel that kids are like this - carefree. He has classmates who fell sick before and on exam days, and even missed the exam but I don't hear DS celebrating 'one less competitor' or the like. Neither did he say his classmates commented so. He tells me a lot of things from school so I'm pretty sure if someone celebrated another's downfall, he would tell me too.Was reading the PSLE 2013 thread and I feel so sad that our education/society has come to this.. Individuals wishing for others to falter so that they can outshine. Have we become so self-centred? Do we wish for a difficult paper so that it stumps the weaker/avg students? Must we boost our morale only by dampening someone else's spirit?
Come 2016, I pray my dc will not hv such a thought... But instead, sincerely wish the best for everyone taking the exams. Or am I being naive?
I think most kids at this young age are innocent and not self-centred by nature. I feel kids learn the elitist attitude from their significant adults. As long as we guide our children along the way, I'm sure they won't behave the same in time to come.
I always tell my kids...the competition is within yourself. If you are doing better than yesterday, then that's fine. It doesn't matter what the guy at the next table scores.
...wondering if I'm gonna get bombed for paragraph 2... -

Well said! -
No pain no gain; let the kids enjoy the challenge!!!

Moving on, I am sure we have some P3 assessment books done ranging from 10%-40%. Do you start your kids with P4 assessment or let them finish the incomplete P3’s books? I feel paiseh to donate or sell as they are not guide books but actual questions that have been worked on. It is also wasteful to discard. Your views?

I think don’t do P3 work unless that assessment is pegged at higher level or there’s some concepts that need reinforcement.
I gave away to cousins, own family not paiseh
there are some that are 不三不四 so I just close one eye and tossed them into the bin… -

Hmmm...DS2 has only one younger cousin and the mum is quite fussy :nailbite:I think don't do P3 work unless that assessment is pegged at higher level or there's some concepts that need reinforcement.

What would you consider as pegged at higher level? Is Andrew Er challenging problem sums consider as one? -
I didn't buy the Andrew Er book you mentioned so can't comment on it. Subjective too, depending on each child.
I think I kept the 青叶Chinese compre book which is hardly used. Other books worth completing would be Onsponge and Get Me Thinking.
I'd prefer to move on personally. I think if I'm a kid, I'd feel sian. It's like a 'have not moved on' feeling.

If your child is quite familiar with the concepts then what is the need to do?

I understand the \"bad\" feeling we get for wasting books, but look at it this way. Just doing for the sake of completing the book could only mean wasting time on it, no?
If you think the two month break is too long a break, target some ( <10) questions every week. Andrew Er challenging problem sums are of quite good general standard , I feel, to keep in touch.
