      babysnow:

      Hi baby snow

I was quoted $195 for 2 way from Sembawang to Marymount and back for next year 2014 bus transport rate.
Contact Marymount Convent school bus driver David: 9670 7698 (for North side only)

      hi sembgal
      $195.00 is a shocker. :moneyflies:
do u know if there are other school buses that can do it more competitively or is it a monopoly?

Hi babysnow, I found out that $195 (2 way) if 1 way, is $10 discount, the bus service is only for the children residing in Sembawang area. Pick up time is 11.20am and drop off time is 7.20pm. Friday drop off time is 6.20pm. Take into consideration that children have to reach MCS by 12pm and be dismissed at 6.30pm. Friday is 1 hour early dismissal. Paying a little higher in order to avoid the girls going merry go around is a factor to consider. I rather the minibus head up to expressway after picking all the girls up. I heard that currently this year about 10 girls taking this route. There will be 2 drivers, 1 in charge of morning route, the other in charge of evening return route. It is advisable to call David, the boss to find out more. Drivers only direct me to call David after I managed to talk to them.

David mentioned that on Orientation Day 15 Nov, we can talk to them again as the school bus service will be attending to parents' request. So don't miss out on the Orientation Day.[/quote]
      hi sembgal

are the school timings that you have mentioned above firm for 2014?
anyway i guess will have to wait for orientation to know for sure then can start making transport arrangements.
have u started filling up the aspirations form that came in the orientation package?

During P1 registration at Marymount Convent, I found out from the admin lady that children will have to be seated in the hall by 12.10pm from Mondays to Fridays. For dismissal timing, the children will be dismissed at 6.30pm from Monday to Thursday. As for Friday’s dismissal timing, the children are to be dismissed at 5.30pm. For parents who intend to pick the children up after school have to be aware about this.

I’m stuck at Question 4: As the school embarks on the implementation of holistic education and holistic assessment, what are some contributions you would like to make here?

Is it asking for money contribution or what? Anyone can offer me some suggestions to the answer?

            Hi all

Am considering if I could transfer my dd from CHIJ OLQP to MM for P2 next year. Any mummies from P2? Are your gals given homeworks etc? As I will be moving, my new place will be nearer to MM…

Orientation is tomorrow 15 Nov.The school only post out the letter dated 12 Nov and P1 booklist this week. We check letterbox everyday and only received the letter tonight, 1 day before the Orientation. Talking about efficiency, I really hope MCS can send out the Booklist to parents in advance at least a week before Orientation Day. Disappoint me. Hope tomorrow’s Orientation is better managed by the school.

                The books are very heavy.

U may bring those luggage bag with wheel, to pull / drag the bag along.
Then don’t have to carry heavy books.

I’m very impressed by the head prefect, saw her name tag, Shayna, who was able to give me clear directions where my child will proceed and where parents will have to proceed. Thumbs up.

First time I saw the principal.

2014 Pri 1 in pm session

2015 Pri 2 in am session at holding school

Student care will be built within MCS during upgrading of MCS, upgrading takes 2 years starting 2015.

When MCS shift to holding school in 2015, studentcare will follow and move into holding school too.

Catholics Values Education on every Wednesday 12.15pm to 1pm. Non-Catholic students requires parents’ consent to join in Programme.

Make transport arrangement for my child, came to know a parent who stays near my place. Gotta keep in touch though our girls not in same class.

Vice-principal advises to go shop buy if want to avoid queue. Nice of her to do that for coming to canteen to check around.

Upon the advice of a friend who has a daughter in MCS, I bought 4 sets PE attire (because PE 4 times a week), 2 pinafores, 5 pairs of socks, 1 black jacket and 2 sets of 4 pcs name tags. What a long queue but worth it! Took measurement and paid at counter. Surprised!!! Saw my relative collecting payment and what luck I have. I got her to double check that my daughter’s sizes are all correct again.

Didn’t buy textbooks as we have to decide if we want to buy the whole set indicated in Booklist. I have bought in advance the Math and Chinese books to revise with my child few months ago. In dilemma, will think about it and go back buy another day. It’s been a tiring day.
                  God bless indeed.

Hi, any parents went to Marymount Convent School Carnival today? I did. My child asked what is a carnival and I brought her to one to let her experience a school carnival which will be a terrific learning experience for her. This is once in a lifetime experience for my child who is going P1 next year to experience a carnival in school, with funds being raised to contribute towards upgrading the school. Thank you MCS for this golden opportunity for my child to be immersed in such event.

                      Hi all!

I am new here and trying to gear myself for my DD (born 2009)P1 registration in 2015. Can any parents advise, I am seriously considering MC but I fall under the P2C and I am living in Yishun, which is >2km. I don’t mind doing PV but I was told that the registration for PV opens only next year, something after CNY. Is this correct? Also, what are my chances for P2C, based on past years statistics? Tried reading the info, but got abit blur…

For 2016 P1, it will be single session already?

                      Many thanks in advance.

Hi, past years statistics showed that no balloting is required, even more than 2km also successful at Phase 2C to enter Marymount Convent, including this year registration for pupils to enter Pri 1 in 2014. Balloting at Marymount Convent begins at Phase 2CS when other parents flock to Marymount Convent when they failed at balloting at other schools in Phase 2C. I expect Marymount Convent to be a hot school in future which balloting may be required at Phase 2C. Why do I say that? The school is raising funds to rebuild the school and expands it in its current site from 2015 to 2016. Upgrading takes about 2 years. From 2015, all the students will study in the holding school currently occupied by CHIJ Toa Payoh as their holding school too. The pupils will be at the holding school from 2015 to 2016. When upgrading of the school is completed, the students will return back to the actual site of MCS where upgrading has been done.

I understand that the upgrading cost about 3.5 million and the school has to raise funds to come up 5% of it. There will be additional facilities like gymnastics hall, teaching lab etc.

There is modular learning too, pupils from P1 to P6 will be exposed to Wushu, Artistic gymnastics, netball, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, rollerblading, tennis and even golf!

The school has 2 niche area: rhythmic gymnastics and Aesthetics.

You can find out more out the school programme for pupils: http://www.marymountconvent.moe.edu.sg/

I'm heartened to say that I have found the right school for my child who will expose her to learning values, science exposure, learning how to care for the environment which are rather similar to what her previous preschool has expose her to it. I certainly do not want a school that focus solely on academics and I'm glad MCS has a balance of sports incorporated in its Programme too.

There are students who live far away from the school, as far away as Yishun, Sembawang, Woodlands and even Chua Chu Kang! Worry not, there is school bus service to cater to these students.

Becoming a PV allows you to understand a school culture better and to allow you to stand a better chance for your girl to enter MCS.

By the time your girl enters P1, she will be in morning session in the holding school. I heard that there are sufficient classrooms in the holding school to cater to all levels in 1 single session. When your girl goes to Pri 2, she will be in the new school enjoying the new facilities.

One last point to add, you can expect quite a bit of homework starting Pri 1 and the amount of homework will increase with each level. This was what I heard from other parents.
