Hello everyone! I am a student, currently 12, waiting for psle results. I really want to get into crescent if I can score that high -.- Mrs Tan, the principal of crescent girls came to my school and introduce crescent to us. She gave me a good impression of crescent and she is so humorous! She is not like my principal, boring, old and stern. May I ask some questions about crescent? 1. Is the school very stress? 2. What subjects can we take at secondary 1? 3.is it cope able? 4. How's the students there? 5. Will overweight students need to take part in health and fitness club or something like that? 6. Is crescent a highly competitive school? 7. How's the CCA there? Any recommendation? 8. I live in Jurong, I know to get to crescent, we need to take mrt till red hill station. After that, how do we walk to the school? 9.last question, I know in this school, we need to buy tablets to study, so, do the school provide any subsidies for poor students? I know the tablet cost around 2200. Please reply me! The last question is the most important. Sorry if I trouble any of you. I am stupid -.-

Good luck for your PSLE. For you to take the initiatve to ask all those questions, you are definitely not stupid. Instead, you are a bright girl who knows what you want.

I believe schools nowadays do provide financial assistance to students who require it. Affordability should not be a barrier for any Singapore students who choose to go to their choice school. I heard Mrs Tan mentioned about financial assistance for overseas immersion trip. But hopefully the existing girls can shed more light on the tablet financial assistance and your other concerns.

During the open house, Mrs Tan jokingly highlighted that CGS is a Government autonomous school which means that schools fees is cheap. Yes, she sounds very down to earth (as in real) and humourous. I also joined the Crescent parents support group on FB and they have very interesting/ good initiative such as uniform recycling. So support is definitely there. So don't worry too much but focus on doing your best.

Yup the financial assistance there is really good. Like for uniforms you definitely don't need to but. The parents would be more that happy to give out the uniforms. And for books you actually can ask like just the seniors to give them to you. Like I actually have my own set of books at home but I ask my seniors for theirs because sometimes the important stuff are highlighted ! If you do want I can pass mine to you ! Just tell me which class will do

Hello to all the young girls out there, I gurantee that there'll be no regret to be a Crescentian. I graduated in 1984 and till date I still have regular gatherings with my CCA mates and classmates almost every month. All of us have fond memories as a Crescentian. My best 4 years in my life! It's a school that you can be proud of.

There won't be another open house, but if you would like to know more about the school, you can go down to Crescent any time to take a look at the school compound and if you chance upon some girls who are back in school during the holidays, do feel free to ask them about the school. I'm sure they'll be more than willing to share their experiences with you. That's what my parents and I did when I was in Sec 1 and the girls really did provide me with useful insights!

Crescent Girls is ok school.

I read with interest the Forum dated recently about this school.
It seems the contributors ( mainly its students as they claim ) are deliberatly promoting very hard this school to the public.
Gives us a ‘fake feeling’.
My daughter said her classmates will bad mouth others from another class.
During recess, the students will be quite rowdy and cut queue. But I guess these situations occur in most schools.
Someone mentioned about seeking teachers for help after school in
studies issue.
Yes, it’s true the students can do that. However, most of the time, teachers are busy with their CCAs commitment that one cannot meet up with teachers after school and in the end, resort to asking home tutors.
It’s not teachers’ fault, just the school system.
The school O level results have dipped slightly.
Based on 2012 O Level results, Crescent Girls’ did not clinch the Sustained Achievement Award for Value-Addedness (SAA) this year.
It has been getting the award for past years.
Daughter feels the school does not really focus on academics as it used to be last time- study pace is quite relaxing now. It used to be more competitive under previous Principal. Suitable for those who do not want to be in a competitive environment now.
The teachers are very nice and caring but too nice that some students take them for granted.
The Principal is approachable and always smiling.
Overall, it’s a school suitable for one who wants a normal pace of learning.
The higher achiever students can look for other schools.

Interesting to hear your candid feedback. It is good to hear alternative views. Do you have dd in CGS and SNGS?

Well to me, having been in a all girls school during secondary life, it sounds real and actually normal. A school is made up of many students and there are bound to have different types of personality, characters and background/ value system. Also those who can click or cannot. I don’t think we can find a "perfect" school environment but probably one that is best suited for the individual. eg. like you mentioned competitive or less competitive environment, etc…

But to be fair to some of the girls I’ve come across in this thread, they have been very helpful in providing the CCA information and realistic feedback via PM. So to me, they are a gem and you know who you are.
