Cedar Girls Secondary School

I heard cedar niche CCA is the track n field. So probably selection for that CCA will not be easy.
Well you could join Track without a background too.
For all readers!
Most CCAs have auditions/trials in January so they can select from the incoming batch of students. Go for all the CCAs you are interested in and try out for it. They will take place in the afternoons of (I think) the second and third weeks of school. Tip: You could train if you wish too... Like get fit after slacking for so many months in preparation for PSLE. :3 Esp for those who want to get into a Sports & Games CCA!

Hi, just went to Cedar open house this morning. Was not comfortable with the Principal speech for the IP. It seems the school approach is teach less of content and let the girls to strive and learn on their own…she quoted like…students expected to read up and research on a topic before the lesson and during lesson time will be more like Q&A session…so very minimal teaching??
And for O level track, is it true the teachers in Cedar do not teach in depth but test and exam questions was very in depth and difficult. Meaning you are tested on content not taught in class…Is this true?? -

You need to be very independent when you are on a IP track. But not to worry as the students will be properly guided throughout. Research works will be part of the assessments which will be credited to the overall eoy results.Hi, just went to Cedar open house this morning. In my experience, the exam questions are manageable and they are based on content from the syllabus. Of course, there are some challenging questions in the paper. So not to worry too much.Hi, just went to Cedar open house this morning. Was not comfortable with the Principal speech for the IP. A cousin of my dd’s is in Cedar and told us that there will only be one ‘O’ level Sec 1 class next year. Is it true?

Thanks Isetan and Shinnio for your reply…I feel more comfortable to put my girl in Cedar now…
At the open house, the Principal says the intake will be 160 o level students and 150 ip students, so total will be 310…that’s quite a lot comparing to TJC only half the vacancy…we were contemplating between TJC and Cedar… -
Hi, I would like to enq more about Cedar IP programme as my dd is really keen to put Cedar as her first choice.
1. Are IP Yr3 Cedarians allowed to take any number of subjects so long as they get promoted? This is the current practice in VS.
2. Are there many yr1 or yr2 Cedarians being transferred to the O level track due to inability to cope with the IP? Currently, VS has <5% being transferred from IP track to O lvl track in yr 1/yr2. But there were 5x more that number that were offered IP from O lvl track. Is Cedar about the same?
3. This yr, 100% of the yr3 in VS are promoted. I understand from VS teachers that they don’t move yr3 students to O lvl tracks. It wld not be fair for the students as O levels need 2 yrs to prepare. Does this apply for the Cedarians on the VCA-IP?
4. Are there min passing marks for HMT in order to promote in the IP?
5. I am familiar with the VS IP curriculum as my ds is currently in the program. Is the Cedar IP curriculum exactly like VS’s?
Thank you. -

I might be a tad bit late in replying to this but I will try to answer to the best of my ability.
1. I don't really understand this question. What do you mean by \"allowed to take any number\"? I know in VSIP3, they can take 3 humanities (if I am not mistaken. However, for IP3 this year in Cedar, we were only allowed to take either all 3 sciences or just 2 sciences. However it is compulsory to take chemistry and to take 2 humanities (geography, history or literature). There is no additional math or Emath in IP3, there is only integrated math (which is really a combination of AMath and Emath).
For Year 4, we can change one of the two humanities we take to Global Studies, retain both our existing humanities or drop one if we choose to continue with triple science. This means that if we were to choose to continue triple science in Year 4, we have to drop 1 humanities. I am unsure if next year's batch of IP3 students can choose to take Global Studies in year 3.
2. I cannot answer this as I don't know the stats on this.
3. For this year, none of the IP3 students were dropped to O level track or retained. I don't think it's possible to be dropped to the O level track but if you really did really badly and failed the promotion criteria, you might be dropped to O level, but I think you would have to be retained. I'm not sure about this though because I haven't seen it happen to anyone I know. But our promotion criteria isn't that hard and it's actually quite attainable so long consistent hard work is being put in. You can check out the promotion criteria on the school's website.
4. The promotion criteria is on the school's website and I believe it is the same for every subject including HMT. Everyone in IP3 takes HMT.
5.No. The curriculum is not exactly the same, but we do share materials and attend the same electives in VJC. But the curriculum differs, as far as I know.
Hope I've answered some of your questions!
