I agree 100% with you. The school is only interested in grooming the higher achiever. My elder is among the OK group scoring above 88 but the other one is among the moderate students 60-70 range but I do not understand why the elder one is still being pushed to go for Supplementary classes while the other was not given even a remedial.. though I am not that Kiasu but I feel it is unfair to leave behind the potentials kids. Ive brought up this concerns with the teacher and was shocked with her reply that there are benchmark to follow when selecting individuals whether or not they are qualified to go for Supp or remedial. Apparently supplementary are for scorers of 80s n above to further outshine their ability and remedials are for those who completely fail. Borderlines do not fit in any of the extra classes provided.
As for CCAs, the only one they are interested to groom is their Chinese Orchestra which is their Niche CCA. They are willing to spend money on getting the best Conductor to lead the team. Seeing at how things worked, Ive withdrawn the elder one frm C.O. Teachers n Instructors kept calling me to let my child joins as they claimed he was selected thru an audition but I see no point when the interest of a child is not met. He is only working for the benefits of the school's overall achievements. There was once he was sick but they do not bother to notify me just to keep the 'show' going on. He informed the trainer tht he wasnt feeling well but they told him to bear with it and do it for the school. I cant tolerate the answer. If the well being of a child is not taken care of why shld my child perform for them??

oh it started way back in p2 when i \"personally\" witnessed a P1 teacher (my son was p2 then) scolding my kid until he was in tears in the school hall during childrens' day celebration. they are queued up in sequence like 1 Honesty followed by 2 Honesty, 1 Loyalty followed by 2 Loyalty and so on. while they were \"happily dancing away\" (excursion was cancelled during to bad weather, so they had no choice but to \"entertained\" the kids in the hall), my kid accidentally stepped on the shoe of the P1 boy behind him and the boy's FT (wow, charged to the boy's rescue and started scolding and shouting at my kid). by then, i was just a earful away and i didnt immediately went over to 'rescue' my boy, instead, i only went over when i saw my kid in tears. i started to shout back at that \"educator\" for her immoral behavior. we all know, kids are kids, and when they play, they truly 'let go and have fun'. \"accidents\" do happened. but for that \"educator\" to raise her freaking voice at a merely 8 year old is really uncalled for. this clearly remained in my head even after 1 year.


this year, worst. he was scolded by teacher for things that he didnt do. he had a class monitor who is a big bully BUT always get his way. the school did nothing. he had a english teacher who do not like kids to use \"good\" words in compo (crossed out the word and deduct marks!!). this teacher can outright tell the students - I dont care which tuition/enrichment centre you go to outside BUT i expect you to follow what i teach. what kind of rubbish teacher does this school hv?

last year, his MT teacher was most of the time absent. and always relief teacher who teaches nothing but only give worksheets to do.

i guessed enough is enough. when i thought about my son's situation in school, i always feel very sad.

I am surprised to read about this. I witness the same thing that happened to another child while attending a teacher's day concert. An Indian teacher shouted and screamed at a young boy who handed her a teacher's day gift. I don't know what happened, but I thought that was so uncalled for. Even if he does something wrong, it should be corrected privately.

The teachers could be highly stressed and performance driven. My kid suffered too at the hands of teachers who are impatient and says all kinds of rude remarks to the class when they are not performing or behaving. These teachers need help learning to cope with stress or the children will suffer.

Oh dear. The information in the recent posts sound scary, if the teachers treat the pupils like that and if the Principal is not approachable. Who says she’s a former head in Gifted Education Branch? One can call the GE Branch to find out if there was indeed such a staff member there years ago.


There are plenty of rumours going around about the backgrounds of school principals. But unless the Principal is well-respected by his/her own pupils (of a whole range of academic abilities), their parents and school staff members (teaching and support staff), then a Principal is a truly good principal, a true leader of education who sets a good example for his/her staff to emulate. Otherwise, any illustrious educational background is of no real value to the development and welfare of his/her students, especially the weaker ones whose parents cannot afford private tuition and there is not enough encouragement and help from their school leaders and teachers (if what Kiasu parents said is true - that this sch is interested in grooming top classes).

Hello to everyone in here, I am new to this forum. Nice to \"meet\" all of you.


My daughter will be joining EPPS in 2014 and she is entering Primary 1.

As a 1st time parent of a primary 1 student I would be appreciative to hear from other parents about EPPS and to share insights with each other.

Indeed it is very stressful as I don't know what to anticipate for her 1st day of school and subsequently how she is going to adapt to the new environment.

Hopefully I can find some advises here from the current parents of EPPS students. :?: :nailbite:

P1 - is normal Chinese.

School look at the child’s Chinese exam results, to decide who to offer higher Chinese.

Hi , my DD was on EPPS, graduated in 2012.

I don’t know if things are stil the same …

1) Those who score between 70-80 were not invited for remedial. Only those that score below 70.
Those that score above 80 go for the A* supp class, to push them to maintain A*.

2) the teachers here are young. Either getting married, pregnant, giving birth or handling their own sick kids …
More often than not, worksheets were given , collected but either returned very very late ( near exam ) or not returned at all .

3) there was once when we had an issue with her form teacher, a group of us made appt to speak with the principal individually.
Guess what, in the midst of the ‘discussion’, the principal asked me what’s my qualification !!!
We were prepared. As she had also asked the 1st parent that met her 2 days earlier this same Qn.
The 1st parent was taken aback and just replied . But the test of us bombarded her.
I told her even if I am a Sch dropout, it has nothing to do with our discussion, it doesn’t make me a lesser parent nor should she handle me any differently.

This Sch has no sports day.

Having said all these. I must be fair, there are many dedicated teachers here too. I remembered a Miss Margaret who was really very involved and dedicated to all her students. She communicated with the parents thru tel calls and email.

It is not a bad Sch. But parents must b more aware, proactive and make themselves heard.

Totally agreed that we should report the principal to MOE. How could she asked/questioned about the parents’ qualification.


With the head of school behaving this way, what can we expect the other teachers to do? I am getting worried if I should send my children there. It is the closest primary school, short walking distance.
