Thank you Firefly38! Only one day and heard from so many well-meaning parents - warning about how selfish RI boys are and how competitive etc. Sigh...

      Agree with Verysuperkiasu & pirated..

There are selfish pupils (& parents) in any schools, branded or neighborhood. I simply do not understand why people think that this 'problem' exists only in good schools.. 🤷

From what I have observed of DS' friends, the boys are respectful & polite, helpful & caring, cheerful & fun-loving. They play hard and they study smart. My boy has had 2 fulfilling years in RI, and I am sure he will continue to enjoy the remaining 4 years there..

Different people have different views about things. We cannot stop people from having negative thots, but we can choose NOT to be affected by their negativity..

So, do not let these negative remarks affect you & DS. Don't 'scare' your DS even before he joins RI. Your DS is a smart boy to be able to make it to RI. I am sure he is able to judge for himself. Don't worry, your boy will have a great & fun time in RI, like most of the boys here do.. 😄

Have a nice holiday.. & Merry Christmas !! :celebrate:

      :goodpost: well said Firefly38 😄

Have you bought the sch uniforms from Bibi & Baba earlier ?

If it is just registration, filling up forms, buying books etc, it should end before noon. The queue for sch uniforms can be very long, so be prepared to wait, if you have not bought the sch uniforms..

Alternatively, you can buy the books (at the bookshop) / sch uniforms (at Bibi & Baba) on another day..
DS1 is aiming to for RI in 2015 (psle 2014). My brother has promised him an ipad if he gets in. Could someone please advise whether ipad or laptop would be more useful in RI? Don't want to get too many gadgets for DS1 if possible. Thanks.

It depends on whether you want to give him a toy or a tool...

May the Force be with You.

the boys can also use the pc in the library...but if anything can motivate him to do well to get in, it is worth it....that is the point...if he can get in, even 5 ipads you will get him, no ?
I guess I should ask which software will be commonly used - Windows or Mac related ones. I want to give him a tool that will be useful for schoolwork, not for social or games. 😂

For the secondary side, it is nearer to bishan mrt. Marymount mrt is nearer to the JC side.

Anyone can advise whether is there a need to buy new textbooks for third language like French? Are the bks the same for the past years? I am not sure son can even sustain for a year or not…

                      Hi RI ks parents here,

Glad to find this thread ... Just completed my DS registration at RI on Mon and brought him to practice taking public transport between Sch and home.
I was impressed with the organization of the registration, the participation of senior rafflesians.

RI is totally new to me, will be visiting this thread to learn new things about RI Sch life. Already read some good advices from past posts.
                      :thankyou:
