Hi everyone may i ask what does my daughter need to bring on the first few days of school? She is going sec 1 next year...does she need to bring textbooks? or....? thank you! šŸ™‚

The folder contains the orientation prog. for the first week.

No lessons during the first week....so go easy, go light and enjoy.

      thank you kiasubeng!

To move up to the next level for Sec 1 and Sec 2, your MSG (Mean Subject Grade) must be <4.0 and pass (B4) for both langs . This means that all your subjects must have at least a B4 or better.
For Sec 3 and 4, your MSG must be <3.0 and pass for both langs instead to match up with HCI's standards! šŸ˜„

For 2014's batches, if your MSG doesn't make it... Well I'll go by level.

S1: Take Foundation Assessment (FA), whereby you take the EOY papers again and try to get MSG <4.0. But honestly, even if your MSG still doesn't make it, the school will let you promote anyway since you're new to Secondary School šŸ˜‚

        :thankyou: for yr sharing.
What I heard is there is a quite a fair bit of moderation made
S2: If your MSG doesn't make <4.0, you have 3 choices
        1) Retain but stay in IP
        2) Promote but go to 'O' level class (2014 sec 3s are the pioneer batch!)
        3) Transfer to another school based on your mid year results
There is no choice of FA for Sec 2s šŸ˜“

S3: Take FA. If you still can't meet the criteria, you can either
        1) Retain but stay in IP
        2) Transfer out

        S4: Same as S3
        --

My friend's daughter compiled the entire level's class list! She said there are only 2 'O' level classes with 12-13 people each. They're classes 312 and 313.

        Hope I helped! šŸ˜„ šŸ˜‚ :imcool:

        :thankyou: for yr sharings.
I heard that there was quite a fair bit of moderation done to help the girls to get promoted. Was it true? Thanks.

I'm not sure if it's true but according to rumours, yes. My friend's daughter (in sec 2 this year) thought she had to retain because she calculated her MSG to be 4.5, but it was moderated to be <4.0. Probably because the papers were too hard and everyone did badly.

That's what they did for HCI's sec 4 batch (as I've heard from HCI Confessions) as well :rahrah: :rahrah:

          Hi!

I need some advise. My DD had applied the Malay Special Programme, and was successful.

Does she need to register the MSP course or submit any form? There is no form for this MSP in the folder.

          Can some one help?

          Thank you

The level head mentioned today that for Malay Special Program, pupils do not need to register. The course will be conducted in school for year one. My daughter is also in the program.

Anyone know if NYGH class distribution for Sec1 is based on T-Scores or otherwise?? Thanks.

Hi to all! I am a newbie to the forum.

DD is going to Sec 1. She is quite interested in modern dance CCA. However, I am worried about whether it will be manageable for her:

1.\tModern dance requires 3 times a week (2:30 – 5:30pm) regular training time. What about additional training time before competitions/performances in public? Anyone has idea?
2.\tI heard NYGH has a lot of homework. Is that true? How many hours do NYGH students spend on daily homework usually?
3.\tHer traveling time to NYGH is 50 min. for one way. Tried to find carpooling, but it seems not easy :<

Would appreciate if someone could give me some advices. Thanks in advance.

The class distribution is random and not by T-Score. There are a few special classes like for HMP, AEP and GEPers, as well as a class for high-scorers. The rest are all random.

Not a lot. Seems quite manageable. Still have time to watch TV and sleep at 10plus. But there are some peaks, like just before due-date of graded assignments, SIAs (there's some changes to SIA btw) when she has to work longer hrs. šŸ™‚

Hi, DD is entering Sec 1 next year. I have questions abt text books to buy. Based on experience from my elder kids (from other IP school), teachers may not use all books listed on book list, (esp for maths and science) even if they are not marked as optional items on the list.

May I know the situation in NYGH? :scratchhead: DD is from GEP, if it makes a diff (for GEP-in tact class).

I am thinking of buying the language text books and lit books, both English and Chinese, Geog, history, skipping math text book. Does it makes sense?

Also, on the book list, there are 3 choices for science text book - print, 2-year subscription digital version and also 4 years subscription. Seems a no brainer to me as the print copy seems the obvious choice, cheaper too. Am I missing something? Thks.
