according to last evening’s brief intro by VP, there are 9 classes all together.

earlier i was told that there will be 2 IP classes. not sure about the number of SBCs.

                  Hi ladies

Can any of you recommend a good maths tutor around the mgs or bukit timah area? Either tuition centre or priavte tutor is fine with me. DD is in sec 1 MGS this year and already find maths tough. I would like to get some help for her before she gets more demoralised.

If any of you has experience with a good tutor, would really appreciate it if you could pm me.

Cheers and Happy Lunar New Year to all!

akmum, my dd shared with me that her math teacher asked the class to go to her directly should there be any doubts or anything that the class isn’t sure. so far, the topics covered are still quite basic. my dd says as long as listen in class, do homework and revise, plus clear doubts immediately, one should be ok with math.

                    hope this would help somewhat.

                      Hi,

My DD is studying in MGPS in P6 this year.
Please advise if it is better to apply MGS DSA for IP (or) opt for MGS IP using PSLE score.

If applying via MGS DSA for IP, please advise how do we approach for testimonials.

Any specific criteria for academic results from P4, P5, and P6 SA1? Do they expect student with A* in all subjects from P4 onwards to apply MGS DSA IP? Please advise in detail.

Do they expect several awards and prizes for MGS DSA IP?

                      Thanks

It's hard to tell. If you have a daughter who is an all-rounder, go for DSA. If you have a daughter who is certain to get 250+ or so, use PSLE scores.

If applying via MGS DSA and you need a teacher testimonial, choose a teacher who knows your daughter personally and well, and who can express this in clear and exact English.

A DSA application can be targeted at a specific area — academic (i.e. Olympiad performances and others that involve going beyond the subject syllabus), arts (e.g. exhibition- or performance-quality visual or performing arts), sports (e.g. is a key school team member, has been top 4 at national level), and community service/others.

The best candidates have multiple options in all four areas. A score is assigned to each achievement and this score is capped in each area (i.e. you can't keep jacking up your score by doing many many things, there is a limit). Or at least, that's how it's supposed to be done… 🙂

Normally the candidate should be able to write a personal narrative statement about their life and interests and why they think the IP is a good idea. General stuff is not useful, make sure the points are very specific and personal.

                        Hope that helps!
