      Dear all,

I was on wait list #20+ and was not offered a place in both Harding/Leedon Campus. Should have applied for the PM session as the wait list was only 10+.
      🤷

My child is born on 2nd half of 2011.

Congrats to all those who got in! Any idea what are my chances like?

Cos i believe its pretty slim. How can 20 over parents pull their kids out for whatever reasons?

Anyway will be registering for St Joseph.. is it true that their approach are not as academically inclined as St James?

Will also know if i managed to secure a place in NYK via waiting list this June..

I personally find current principal St Joseph CC is good and manage the kids quite well. They do have homework, spellings, hanyu pinyin which i heard of.
However, do not expect much from their teachers. They really work for living rather than showing any passion over the kids. I found them too negative and the worst is they can speak bad things about your kids in front of them. I checked with other parents who kids are there and they feel the same. Not all teachers there are bad. Few married teachers (with kids themselves) does differentiate from the rest. If your kids are not under these teacher, then have to say good luck. I ever witness one of the teacher dragging a kids by his/her hands to one corner. The next moment she did is to continue shouting and scolding at the kid. The poor kid was so affected that he/she nearly burst into tears. I came to know later that because the kids does not want to co-operate during game/music time. What more to expect from a barely 3 years old kid. I think the teachers there should talk less to each other and care more for the children.

Hi, does anyone know whether St James has a policy on kids being toilet trained? My son has a spot for next year's nursery slot, so my concern is whether he needs to be toilet trained before then. Have been trying to toilet train him but to no avail.

        Would appreciate any advice. thanks!

How old is your child now? Is he going to N1 or N2?

Mine is N2 this year and he has a classmate who was not toilet trained till few months ago... A bit embarrassing for the boy, to be wearing pampers still.. But I have personally witnessed the teachers feeling the pampers to see if needed to change and helped him to change. They were very sensitive to it.. So I don't see much issue with the School..

Having said that, perhaps I could share also that you should try to prepare your son cos he may feel insecure when he sees his friends going to toilet and he having to do it inside his pants.. Just a kind thought I hope you won't mind..

        Hope everything goes well..

Hi chien6, thanks for sharing your experience! My son will be in N2 next year and we decided to register him in the end, after attending the school tour and orientation talk. He's slightly better with toilet training now so hopefully by next year it should be ok.

Just wondering if there are any SJCK parents staying in the Serangoon Gardens area? Just realized the school bus won't be able to fetch my son from home in the morning. 8.15am is pretty early for us!

        Thanks!

            Hi!

I just got a spot for my child in K1 starting 2014(Leedon).

Any parents whose children will be going to K1 next year?

Parents who have children in Leedon for couple of years care to share some insights on the teachers and curriculum?

              Hi,

Anyone still register your child in PNP with SJCK harding next year 2015? I’m fickle minded due to their lease expired in end 2016.

Exactly... I'm in two minds about whether to confirm. They probably won't have enough space at the end of 2015 to send everyone to Leedon campus so I'm not sure where they will push the rest.

Anyone have (more informed) news on where is the likely location?

                Thanks.

SJCK (Harding) is moving to Gilstead Road in 2016, with a bigger campus.

That depends on how you define "prepare well for primary school". If you want you child to be reciting Chinese poems and spelling difficult English words after K2, SJCK is not the school to send to.

Then why is SJCK such a popular school? I have two kids in SJCK now. One in K2, one in N1. Just wanna share here -

                      1. My older girl attended her classmate’s birthday party. There’s a piñata. My girl hasn’t seen one before and has no idea what it was all about. When someone finally broke the piñata, all the kids rushed forward to grab the candies that were all over the floor. My girl was in shock and didn’t get a single one. She started crying. Then a few of her SJCK classmates went up to offer her the candies that they grabbed, without any parental instruction, and asked her not to cry.

                      2. During swim class, the coach asked the kids to line up so they can all dive into the water. A SJCK boy tried to jump the queue by pushing the other kids in line. His mom saw and grabbed the boy, put him at the back of the queue, and told him off - " If you jump queue, you will end up being the last one."

                      3. After swim class, kids need to be showered. There weren’t enough shower cubicle. I was heavily pregnant with my third baby. A fellow SJCK mama whose daughter is in the same swim class saw me struggling and asked me just sit down and chill. She put her own girl with my girl into the same cubicle and showered them both together.

                      4. My girl came out from school crying one day, saying that a boy in her class accused her of being naughty. The boy’s mom heard my girl’s crying, told the boy off, and instructed the two kids to give a big hug to each other.

These maybe very small and trivial matters. But I feel that the teachers and parents at SJCK have done a great job to ensure that the kids are kind, polite and helpful. To me, that’s more important than knowing a few more English words and learning more about Han Yu Pin Yin.
