2014 P1 Registration Exercise for 2015 In-Take

I'm curious to understand how the registration works. Do you mean there is a live display counter to show parents the places taken during the registration for that day? if not how would you know when to withdraw from school A and register for school B?
Withdrawal should be quite fast, and yes, you can register immediately at another school. One parent will normally station him/herself at the first school, while the husband/wife will be at the other school. Then once decided to withdraw, one will do the withdrawal and the other will register at school B.
But don't do it at the very last moment as you have to take into consideration of queuing time, computer delay, etc.
may you provide an scenario example please?

Im in a dilema. I can register my son in my girl's schl i.e. DLS with affiliation to sec schls for boys and also i can register my son in my hubby's schl in ACS. Which schls shld i choose? For the latter, my son needs to catch the schl bus at 530am and back home at 3pm! Whereas the nearby neighbrhood schl he can goes to schl at 7am and back home by 1.30pm or so.... -

Study finds later school start times improve sleep and daytime functioning in adolescents
PROVIDENCE, R.I. ā Julie Boergers, Ph.D., a psychologist and sleep expert from the Bradley Hasbro Children's Research Center, recently led a study linking later school start times to improved sleep and mood in teens. The article, titled \"Later School Start Time is Associated with Improved Sleep and Daytime Functioning in Adolescents,\" appears in the current issue of the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics.
\"Sleep deprivation is epidemic among adolescents, with potentially serious impacts on mental and physical health, safety and learning. Early high school start times contribute to this problem,\" said Boergers. \"Most teenagers undergo a biological shift to a later sleep-wake cycle, which can make early school start times particularly challenging. In this study, we looked at whether a relatively modest, temporary delay in school start time would change students' sleep patterns, sleepiness, mood and caffeine use.\"
Boergers' team administered the School Sleep Habits Survey to boarding students attending an independent high school both before and after their school start time was experimentally delayed from 8 to 8:25 a.m. during the winter term.
The delay in school start time was associated with a significant (29 minute) increase in sleep duration on school nights, with the percentage of students receiving eight or more hours of sleep on a school night jumping from 18 to 44 percent. The research found that younger students and those sleeping less at the start of the study were most likely to benefit from the schedule change. And once the earlier start time was reinstituted during the spring term, teens reverted back to their original sleep levels.
Daytime sleepiness, depressed mood and caffeine use were all significantly reduced after the delay in school start time. The later school start time had no effect on the number of hours students spent doing homework, playing sports or engaging in extracurricular activities.
Boergers, who is also co-director of the Pediatric Sleep Disorders Clinic at Hasbro Children's Hospital, said that these findings have important implications for public policy. \"The results of this study add to a growing body of research demonstrating important health benefits of later school start times for adolescents,\" she said. \"If we more closely align school schedules with adolescents' circadian rhythms and sleep needs, we will have students who are more alert, happier, better prepared to learn, and aren't dependent on caffeine and energy drinks just to stay awake in class.\"

I guess depending on the school - Alexandra Primary had a whiteboard where they constantly updated the numbers of registrants vs vacancies.

Some schools have no live display (only the admin pple will know) while some even have live updates on their school website. So parents doing that wait and see thing must develop a thick skin to pester the admin pple if that school has no live display. Try to stick to one good school coz it is very nerve wracking to run between two and sometimes, you get nothing in the end. The more choices you have, the more dilemmas you will be in.

ACS is the better one but distance is also impt. Can you move nearer or ferry the kids yourself? I would choose ACS and move nearer if no property restrictions. Then transfer the gal to a school around there eg. St Margaret's.

The sch that I was aiming for last year had no live display.
I had to call the school after the morning registration to ask the number of applicants and then at the end of the day to ask the total registration.
Some admin entertain. Some just give you a number with no breakdown of the applicants in each distance. So I had to also depend on this forum to find out figures when other parents update too. -
