LeeTaiTai:
What is MT fortnight har?
For MT fortnight (Chinese) -
there are various activities for different level.
Example
For P1, pupils will decorate a new year card in class.
There are activities like make a bookmark where they will have to write their 4-character greetings and cut a 'frame'; do paper-cutting of mandarin oranges, fish, pineapples, flower or Chinese opera face mask, during recess.
These activities have the aim of making Chinese fun and interesting for pupils, so that they appreciate and like Chinese. -
Lalamum:
Yes, correct.Hi all,
There is no banding system for P1.
The entire class will move automatically to the next level. E.g if your DC is from 1I she will automatically move to 2I.
Only at end P2 there is \"silent\" banding and the official one is at end P3.
So, P1 will move up to next year p2 same class, together with the (same classmates + normally , also together with the same form teachers & co-form teachers).
So, example:
2014 class 1g will move up into class 2015 class 2g, next year.
And To add on,
when come to end of p2 term 4 -
school strictly look at only p2 results, for \"silent banding\" into p3 classes.
School won't look into past p1 results performance @ end of p2, to decide \"silent banding\". if child did not do well in p1, child can still catch up in p2.
But @end of p3 -
Will be \"official banding\". -
phtthp:
How does this banding works? Will the school takes the mean results of 3 subjects? Or will they be banded according to subjects? Ie. the child might have to change classes for every different lessons. Please advise. Thanks.

"Silent banding" @ end of p2 - only the school know, parents won’t know. (Because silent)
"Official banding" @ end of p3 - better clarify with school. -

End of P2, the students will be officially banded for Chinese into CL and HCL classes.\"Silent banding\" @ end of p2 - only the school know, parents won't know. (Because silent)

End of P3, the students are streamed according to their school results - English, Math and Science. Chinese will, again, be banded into CL and HCL. -

metz:
so, for Chinese lessons -
End of P3, the students are streamed according to their school results - English, Math and Science.
Chinese will, again, be banded into CL and HCL.
means the students move around, to different type of Chinese class : Normal CL or HCL.
i)
how about Science (P4 to P6) lessons ?
do Mainstream pupils (apart from top 2 classes E, F) also move around, to different type of Science class :-
Foundational Science or Normal Science class ?
so, what happen to those pupils, who after attending Foundational Science class for sometime, had made an improvement in Science, say, in the second Semester (ie. 2nd half of the year) ?
can they quit Foundational Science class halfway, join back Normal Science class -
so as to quickly catch up with the regular Mainstream pace, in time to prepare for PSLE ?
because there is quite a big difference in the Science curriculum, between (Foundational vs Normal). The child need time to prepare, for PSLE Science.
because for Lower Primary (P1 / P2) :-
there is Learning Support program (LSP), for English & Maths.
They form small groups, to give maximum attention, to each child.
Once a pupil has passed certain assessment(s) in LSP (English) or LSP (Maths) -
the child can quickly go back to the Mainstream classes, to be on par with her peers.
Not sure if the same applies to Foundational Science class, as well.
ii)
how about Maths (P4 to P6) lessons ?
do Mainstream pupils also move around, to different type of Maths class :-
Foundational Maths or Normal Maths or Advanced Maths class ?
