      Hi all,

I will be registering my daughter this year. I would really like to put her in OLGC as i find the environment more peaceful. I just called the sch and although she is a catholic but because we are just out of the 1km, she will fall under 2C and ballot. It’s a real pity cause I’m just moving out of my current place (within 1km) coming April to across the street (outside 1km). sigh…

I am an old girl of TP and will qualify for phase 2A2.

My new place is in Serangoon Ave 3 (current Ave 2), therefore OLGC would be considered closer.

      Questions:

Should I take the risk with OLGC under 2C balloting? The admin said there was no balloting for 2009 and everyone who applied got in as it was a low birth rate year. I ask about this year and she could not comment. Or should i be safe with TP?

Reading the thread, I still can’t quite figure out which is an overall better school environment?

Some help please. Thanks in advance.

I don’t understand. If you are Catholic, then even if you stay beyond 2Km, you will still be registering under Phase 2B. Why 2C?

          Hi belbuttons,

Like yourself, I am also an old gal of TP and will register daughter under 2A2. Admin told me there has been no balloting for Phase 2A2 before.
Is TP very much further for you at Serangoon ? Next year, TP will be relocating to Geylang Bahru for 2 years until Dec 2012.

Last year’s (2003) batch also had no problems registering because there were lesser kids.

            mum03:
My DD just started pri 1 this year at CHIJ Katong Convent, \"being hiao\", I am not sure yet, cause she has being always been interested in the way she dresses up. Isn't that what girls are all about  , I remember doing it when I was their age. DD likes the sch so far, as for sec sch, we have intended to put her in a mixed sch, not so keen in CHIJ Sec, not because of the \"wild\"thing its just because that we prefer her to get adjusted into the BGR, in a good way. 😎

            Hi Mum03,

i am planning to enroll my girl to CHIJ Katong too (2012).
I am not an academic focus mother but like esmummy, i am more concern on the general ethos of the school.

With your girl in CHIJ katong, any comment to the ethos of the school?
specially to the big girls like, P5 and P6

              Hi Tracy,
I am not sure of the Pri 5 and Pri 6, however I did some PV with the Pri 5 kids, and notice that they are generally very well behaved, and open to suggestions. They wish you \"GOOD MORNING AUNTY\" when they see you in the canteen. personally I am happy that my DD is studying there.

              Hope it helps

Hi Namie, I’m not sure too but that was what i was told when i called the school up. If 2B is available that is good news, though the dilemma here is also which school is better in terms of a balance education? and should i worry too much about distance is she’s taking the school bus?

Hi Janet_lee88, OLGC is 10 mins away, TP 20mins (by car not school bus) - about the same when school moves to temp premise.

Will it be too tiring for a young child if the school journey is long considering she will go by school bus that will make multiple stops.

Can someone advice if TP and OLGC are single sessions?

If your girl is Catholic, you fall under 2B, regardless of distance, though you would have to provide your girl's baptism cert at registration to prove that she is Cathlolic. Hope that helps.

I just checked with a friend whose 2 nieces are at CHIJ OLGC and she confirms that it is single session for that school all the way.
