Doctor’s advice is full cream milk (powder or liquid) until 2yo, then low fat milk (powder or liquid). No need for any special milk once past the age of 12mths.

I noticed some brands hv palm oil as one of the ingredients. I am giving Fernleaf Full cream milk powder to my children, aged 12+ and 17.

I'm using the Fernleaf low fat 'family' milk for my kids (14 and 17) now as I don't think they need the fat! They drank full cream milk till about 5yo then we switched to low fat milk. Not always the same brand as we've moved around so much, but always powdered as I find liquid milk too heavy to carry.

Kids are on fresh milk. Started introducing it to them when they were about 2yrs old. I think by the time they were about 4yrs old they were fully on fresh milk.

Now they drink low fat fresh milk.

Personally, I prefer kids to get their nutrients from fresh food. I don’t buy the fortified this and that thing.

My kids bypassed formula milk. They were breastfed until almost 2. Then they take whatever that’s in the fridge ie fresh or UHT.

DS is on fresh milk since 4 years old. He drinks cold milk from the fridge so it is time saving. My reason to him is if ang mo kids can drink cold milk, why he can’t? He never had stomachache from milk. He is Sec 1 this year and has started drinking low fat fresh milk.

Lactose intolerant runs in hubby's family.

So far, elder boy would not hv any prob with cold fresh milk. Ah boy would.

We dun like low fat fresh milk, too diluted. I dun think the children drinking full cream milk is an issue for us as our diet is generally less oily, less salty.

Elder boy would make fruit milkshake for his supper (not every night) whereas ah boy would drink a cup b4 sleeping.

I am lactose intolerant too. So troublesome :gloomy: I can't drink milk in the morning when my stomach is empty otherwise I will get diarrhoea. I must take lactase enzyme supplement if I want to drink milk in the morning. But luckily eating ice cream in the afternoon when my stomach is not empty is ok 🕺

We are trying to control DS's calorie intake. He eats rice during recess and lunch in school so he is eating 4 meals a day 4 times a week :nailbite: We can't tell him not to have rice during recess because his recess is around 9.30-10.30am and his lunch is around 2.30pm. He is ok with low fat milk and skim milk. Maybe I should reduce his rice for dinner. :scratchhead:

I also see more stomachache if ah boy drinks fresh milk in the morning, yet is ok with the night drink 🤷 what an coincidence or there is really a difference between drinking on an empty stomach vs a non-empty one?

I dun suggest you reducing the food intake of your boy. He is in the growing stage. As long as there is no building up of fats in his body and his body is mostly lean muscles, having a big appetite shld not be an concern.

When ah boy was 8 mths old, he failed in lifting his head and was overweight. The PD advised to reduce the breastfeeding sessions. We listened to her and so regretted our decision.

Children will lose their baby fats as they become active individuals.
