Hi everyone!
I am staying within 1-2km from Kong Hwa. Does anyone know what is the chance to get in for phase 2B?
I saw the statistic within the school website, it seems that for phase 2B or phase 2C, it is only possible to get in if its within 1km. Not sure if i am interpreting this correctly?
Please enlighten me. Thanks! -

Thanks phtthp!
Not sure if the demand will be less as there are less tiger babies born in 2010… -
According to the staff, Kong Hwa tries to only take in PV that live within 1 km. Not sure if there is any change.

Hi,
Really? I went to Kong Hwa school in Feb and they said no more PV. No information update in their website either. We live within 1 km. I would try my luck again next time.
Does anyone know confirmed information? -

I heard Hokkien Huay Kuan is controlling the PVs now not through their schools. That's why the schools have stopped accepting PVs.Jworld:

But maybe that is the last time they are taking in application.
Cuz Hokkien Huay Kuan is now actively controlling the volunteer in their affiliated schools. Here's the FAQ from their website:

FAQ ON SHHK MEMBER VOLUNTEER SCHEME FOR SHHK AFFILIATED SCHOOLS (MEMBERS ONLY)
1. What are the objectives of the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme?
The SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme aims to achieve the following objectives:
a) Meet the schools’ needs on volunteers
b) Provide a platform for parents to contribute to the schools
c) Allow potential parents and students to build rapport with the school
2. Who is eligible to apply?
Only SHHK members are eligible.
3. What is the selection criterion?
Member volunteers are selected based on the needs of the schools, the number of member volunteers required by the school and the profiles of the member volunteers.
4. What is the minimum duration that each member volunteer is required to serve in the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme?
Member volunteers will generally volunteer for a minimum of 6 months. The duration of the volunteer work is also subjected to the schools’ needs.
5. Is the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme open to members with children of all ages?
The SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme is open to children of all ages but subjected to the schools’ needs.
6. How is the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme different from the MOE Parent Volunteer Scheme?
The SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme is administered by SHHK and is subjected to the terms and conditions of the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme.
7. Can the applicant volunteer in more than one school?
Members are encouraged to volunteer in a school of their choice so as to build rapport and be familiarized with the school’s culture and environment.
8. Is distance between the school and my home a selection criterion for the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme?
No. Distance from the school is only considered during the balloting process under the MOE Primary One Registration exercise.
9. What is the minimum number of volunteer hours that I must accumulate?
This will depend on the number of applicants and the number of vacancies available at each school. The more hours you accumulate, the higher the chance of obtaining a recommendation from SHHK.
10. How many times can I be absent from the volunteer work?
Once you have signed up for the SHHK Member Volunteer Scheme and have been assigned a volunteer slot, you are required to fulfil your commitment dutifully, as your absence will impact the school’s operations and programmes. SHHK takes a serious view on members who are absent from the duties assigned.
SHHK reserves the right to terminate volunteer duty assignments if a Member Volunteer breaches any of the terms and conditions governing the Scheme and/or the Volunteer’s performance or/and conduct is found to be unsatisfactory.
11. Will my child be guaranteed a recommendation under MOE Primary One Registration Phase 2B after I have performed the assigned duties?
There is no guarantee that a child whose parent has volunteered his/her services will secure a recommendation for registration under Phase 2B of the Primary One Registration exercise. Even with the recommendation, all applications under Phase 2B are subjected to MOE’s rules and regulations. Balloting will be necessary if the number of applicants exceeds the number of vacancies. You may wish to refer to MOE’s website for more information on the Primary One Registration Exercise.
12. When can I apply for the scheme?
Volunteering at the affiliated schools is primarily based on the needs of the schools. When such a need arises, we will call for members to apply for the available vacancies.
For questions on SHHK Primary One Phase 2B recommendation, please refer to FAQ for Phase 2B Recommendation and Registration in Singapore Hokkien Huan Kuan Affiliated Schools on http://www.shhk.com.sg.[/quote] -
hi, can the parent share some experience with geylang methodist primary? specifically on the teacher’s attitude, personality, school environment, principal? I saw from the website indicating GMS will be converting to a single session in 2016, do we know if this is on track for completion?
My girl will be registering for primary one in 2016. We’re methodist thus hoping our children will be raised in a methodist school.
appreciate all advise… tks. -
