What happens to those who are ballot out of phase 2A2? Do they register in phase 2C hence increasing the competition of this category ?

Yes, sad to say if balloted out at 2A2, then will have to register again at 2B or 2C and compete with the others. So now even if you are a ex-student doesn't give you a 100% guarantee to enter that school unless you join the Alumni or stay within 1KM.

But now adays many ex-students of primary school had already moved out of the area which majority stayed more than 2KM! I'm glad my parent's haven't shifted house since my primary school days...

2008 Rat - 39826 births. 300+ more mousey , I anticipate more or less the same level of ‘fierce’ competition among those popular schools, I wonder will those popular schools increase their intake or not? coz there were 3 new schools participated last year, any new schools this year? Moreover, 6 schools merged into 3 schools…or this year the overall places available lesser than last year?

Cheeriomama, those balloted out of P2A2 (lets hope no one will be balloted out at this phase), if going for P2C, must definitely stay within 1 km of the school, if not confirm no chance to ballot.

For those not super popular school (start balloting in Phase 2A2), I feel it actually helps the Phase 2B/C parents because the number of seats have increased by 20 in each phase.

They may not have to wait until Phase 2C.

Their child can still register under:-

a) Phase 2A(2) -

i) if they have ever transferred primary school(s) before, can prove using their Report card on Registration day.

Example:
in the past, transferred from a Non-GEP school to another GEP, or Non-GEP school.

Eg:
Transferred from Radin Mas primary to CHIJ St Nicholas, or to Henry Park / Nan Hua primary -
means that this phase 2A(2) parent is alma mater of 2 schools before, not only just one.

ii) if their spouse ex primary school still exist or had already merged with another school.


b) Phase 2B -

- if they are Catholic / church members of Presbyterian, Anglican, Methodist churches & can provide baptism cert / documents to prove, to mission-related schools.

- if they or their spouse are Parent Volunteer(s) of another school, members of GRC / Hokkien Huay Kuan, to schools that are affliated to SHHK.

Example
If a 2A(2) parent staying > 2 km from Nan Hua fail in balloting at Phase 2A :-
But if parent is a Catholic : can enrol the child into a Catholic mission school, OR

If the parent is from a Methodist church : can enrol the child into a Methodist mission school (eg : Fairfield Methodist primary)


c) Phase 2C -
stay within 1 km of Popular school, within own neighborhood.

With this 40 seats reserved, the trend change gradually.

For very Popular Co-ed schools :-
parents will migrate from 2A(2) into 2A(1).
In order To avoid balloting in 2A(2).

Over time, slowly -
With a floodgate of 2A(1), Phase 2A(2) can become redundant.
When that time come one day -
become Phase 2A(1) turn to face balloting, for those stay more than 2km.

Those 2A(1) staying less than 1 km, are still safe.
This'll happen to Popular co-Ed schools.

Single sex schools \"All Boys\" or \"All Girls\" : may not encounter this situation.

This figure (40) is only a starter.
Over time, MOE monitor closely, every year.
If need be, MOE may increase, in gentle dosage.
But it will be an even number, because it need to divide by 2, split into two Phases (2B and 2C).
